Downton Abbey

Recommended Posts

I'm going to wait for you guys to finish then we can all talk. I have seen it all and I will ruin it.

Overall, I think this season had the worst writing they have ever had.

@@2goldengirl im glad you said that about mercy street cuz im recording it but haven't started it cuz my co-worker said it wasn't good but now i'll start and see how it is :)

Mercy Street is a slow build. It may not have enough 'drama' for some but I'm finding it very good. I prefer slower paced shows where you get a chance to really get to know the characters.

And on that same topic, for all you Downton Abbey fans, try Upstairs/Downstairs. It was the pre-cursor to DA...and in my opinion, the better of the two series.

You know I hate to say it but upstairs downstairs is not the right time. For me I really like 1800s Drama. once they start getting into the 20s I lose interest a bit. I even bought the mini series with Jeremy Irons I'm trying to think of the name right now and I didn't like it immediately and now I own the stupid DVD set LOL. Id like to see another 1800s piece come around and I prefer it to be based in Europe rather than the US

I recently finished it and I just don't know if it was the writing so much as them being in a rush to tie up every loose end. It just made it feel very choppy without giving anything away feel free to DM me though I wouldn't mind a chat

The gastrectomy was created as a "cure" for ulcers originally and was discovered to have the unintended, yet sometimes wanted effect of weightloss. ???? I couldn't help but chortle a little and wonder if that's why the show is ending...because Hugh Bonneville doesn't want to have to lose weight to keep up with Lord Grantham.

Speaking of Downton... The writer, Julian Fellows is slated to do a show in the US. It's reported to be set in the Gilded age in NYC.

I can't wait!!!

Touring fabulous Gilded age mansions or even better staying in one converted to a hotel is one of my passions.

There is a fabulous highclere castle vacation that includes dinner there during Christmas. It's pricey but sounds fabulous

@@pr_pitbullgrl, if you're into the Victorian period, I read that there is a BBC series on Victoria & Albert that will be taking Downton Abbey's timeslot, but I believe we have to wait til January.

In the meantime, "Outlander" returns this spring, and this is the second book, so they're going to Paris. I've seen photos of some of the costumes and they're simply to die for.

@@2goldengirl that sounds good. i loved the victoria and albert movie with emily blunt.

all i ask is something set in the 1800's with a big sprawling English estate. is that too much to ask for!? lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
