How many carbs is your surgeon allowing you to eat a day? Mine never told me.

For me pre-op it is 45-55 per day

I was never given a guideline for carbs or calories, just Protein. I thin the idea is that, by getting my 100 grams of protein a day, there isn't much room left for carbs.

Jamie, that is an awesome way of looking at it!! That seriously made a world of sense to me and brought it in perspective to me.. I have my 2 week pre-op coming up and surgery on 29th.. Good timing for me to see ur post. Thanks

That's why they tell us to always eat protein first. If we fill up on the protein we need, we won't eat the carbs we don't need.

My NUT (post-op) says I just need equal to or less than my Protein. Some NUTs allow greater carbs than protein. I have always tried to stay around 50-55g carbs and done well with that. I am recently trying to increase my calories to closer to 1000 and it breaks down as 105g protein / 75g carbs and 30g fat. I don't always stick to that (I tend to go over on fat and less carbs).

My pre-op diet is less than 20 grams per day.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
