So other than micromanaging your diet ( like we all must do post op! Lol) what are your hobbies? How do you spend your free time?

For me I adore photography and have my iPhone and my DSLR with me at all times.

I also enjoy.....

Reading

Opera

Museums

Gilded age mansions

Antiques

Symphony ( classical music)

Musical theatre (wicked and the like)

I'm a history nut and specifically like researching Chicago history.

So, what are your hobbies?

I love photography and I am finally getting back into it. Matter of fact I'm taking a basic photography class to hone my basic DSLR skills.

Outside of that: music and family. I e loved music since I was a kid and even trained vocally in classical music and opera. I still sing for wedding and the like, but certainly not like I used to. Most of my energy goes to wrangling my 4 year old.

I knit, crochet, spin, podcast and dye yarn. I'm in the process of turning part of my hobby into a business.

Get back into it! It is so fun and can be good exercise in the right style and class.

I am a tribal belly dancer  It is a wonderful dance style that is very inclusive of differnt body types. I do "improv" style in which we have a shared vocabulary of moves with cues we can use to dance together without choreography. It is a lovely community and the dance itself is beautiful and good exercise.

I love belly dancing, took one class and have not been able to get back to it :(

Can you recommend a style to start. My hips are always in motion lol.

Until my injury in 1990 I was a rather active person. I loved swimming, ballroom and belly dancing, played volleyball, miniature golf and went bowling. Once I was injured all that kind of activity stopped and I took up crafts. I learned how to do some basic sewing of clothing until I got so big I couldn't find any more patterns. I also did cross stitch, plastic canvas, made rugs and made a business out of making three dimensional beaded items like clocks. vases, purses, baskets, and all kinds of Holiday items. I also ride my tricycle and do the sit down circuit at the gym.

I just had my surgery Jan 26th so once I am able to exercise again I plan to train for a Bike ride challenge around Lake Okeechobee in Feb 2017. i also want to play croquet again like I did when I was a child and go back to some kind of dance like Zumba or Bakwa.

I go crazy doing "close work" like sewing, knitting is my idea of purgatory. I think it is cool and I have tried in the past - like painting flower pots etc. I would try to tell myself I like it, but I don't. I do like gardening, especially flowers. You can do amazing things in just pots on your portch!

I envy gardeners it's not what I do at all. As this thread shows there a so many things you can get involved with that are so fulfilling.

  • proudgrammy how about coloring adult pictures or making sun catchers. I don't think any body mentioned those crafts. There are hundreds of coloring books on the market now a days and if framed they can make lovely pictures, especially if you color something the Grandchildren are interested in. The sun catchers could be used by all your Grandchildren to keep them safe by not walking through sliding doors or just simply make nice window decorations when the sunlight shines on them. Just something to think about. If your interested I have several sites I can send to you. Just let me know.

Sorry I am just seeing this! Where are you located and what style do you like? I personally do a derivative of ATS (American Tribal Style) improvisation. I think it is awesome and it is super inclusive of body styles. It is improvisational dance that looks like it could be choreo. We have a vocabulary of moves we can use and have cues for them that are often imperceptible to the audience. By using them we can dance in a group and be together but create dance in the moment. I *personally* don't like cabaret as much but different people will be attracted to different things.

I suggest looking on youtube at different groups and seeing what you like. I can help you find classes in your area if you would like. For the style I do check out videos of Fat Chance Belly Dance. No, their name has nothing to do with weight but its a cute story. They are based in San Francisco and are known as the originators of the current style. I dance in Florida and our style is a dialect of that.

Just start clicking through videos and note the names of anything that strikes your fancy and I can help you narrow down the style.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
