When you are trying to get in your fluids is it ok to take a couple of sips at a time?

@@Lisa_85 - yes a couple is fine, IMHO, you just don't want to guzzle a bunch...stay hydrated!

You can drink as much as your restriction will allow. Early on, due to swelling, you might feel some restriction with Water. Once the swelling goes down and you are all healed up, there is no reason you can't take big gulps of water. Just be careful not to swallow air while gulping.

I just finished day 5 and had a woops moment. I turned up a bottle of Water and took about 3 pre-op swallows. It was a little heavy and uncomfortable but I wasn't immediately stuck trying to puke up my toenails.

I know going into this I had a real worry that i would be taking 1cc sips of liquid for the rest of my life. I wouldn't suggest doing it as soon as you wake up post op, but it looks like an actual swallow or two at a time isnt armageddon.

I'm 2 days post-op, and it still takes me about 15 minutes to drink a 30 ml cup of Protein Water, with several burps between each sip. The heartburn is fierce! I think I'm obsessing about not getting in enough liquid (I'm at 24 oz for today and suppose to have minimum 40 oz.) that I'm causing myself unnecessary pain.

Sipping was a big ordeal for me the first two weeks. Every tiny sip caused gurgling in the back of my throat, then constriction/spasms in my esophagus, then burping. Every single time. It was incredibly unpleasant. Marching in place while sipping seemed to help a little. And it did get MUCH better around 2 weeks post-op, once the swelling went down.

I'm burping a lot but they have me on a PPI so no heartburn, they don't have you om a PPI?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
