I try to space my meds & supplements throughout the day.
Some Vitamins & minerals are better absorbed with food and some are absorbed better if they aren't taken with certain foods, medicines or other vitamins and other vitamins & minerals can affect the absorption of certain meds..

I have a prenatal Vitamin that I'm taking prior to surgery, but, I'm wondering how I'm going to get this giant pill down after. Is it OK to crush these? I don't see why not, as it's not an extended release.

I was allowed to swallow whole pills at 7 days post-op and didn't have any problems doing so.

As for the OP, I take Vitamins three times a day. You aren't supposed to take Calcium and Iron (usually in your mulit-vitamin) at the same time, because they compete for absorption. So make sure you are taking those at least two hours apart.

Here's my schedule:

Morning: birth control, omeprazole, Multi-Vitamin, probiotic, B12

After Work: multi-vitamin, Vitamin C, Omega 3, coq10, Vitamin D3

Before Bed: omeprazole, Calcium +D3

I'm so over all of these pills! Mine are split am/pm & I only see the number growing in the future...Prilosec, Actigall, Vitamin B Complex, magna zinc, B-12 sublingual, Vitamin E, Biotin, Iron, probiotic, coQ-10...I'm sure that more will present themselves!

Small price to pay for staying healthy. If you are having trouble keeping track, there are apps that will track meds/vitamins for you and let you set alarms. They even do handy things like remind you when you need to buy/order more.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
