Hey everyone!

i started my 7 day pre-op diet today. Everything has been going good until a little while ago, i've developed a headache. I've always been one to have them when i haven't eaten. Can anyone suggest anything besides tylenol?? tylenol usually does NOTHING for my headaches. PLEASE HELP! it's going to be a long week if they continue.

Thank you!

I have that happen on liquids too. If you are cutting caffeine too, maybe try to get some through a cup of tea or iced tea. Just make sure no aspirin, alleve, ibuprofen before surgery. Good luck!

Get a massage, moving that lymph will help purge the hangover you are feeling. And that really is what it is. Hangover from sugars and carbs and caffeine.

An electrolyte drink might be useful, too.

It might be a carb headache you can take a pinch of salt or an electrolyte drink and see if that helps.

I went off caffeine almost a week before the liquid diet. Killer headache the first day, then feeling like crap for about a week. Sucks but worth it. Afternoon Naps helped me.

It's been a week. How you hanging in there?

I'm not the poster child for post surgery success. I could not stay ahead of the pain, and there were some issues that landed me in the ER. But, whether you are good at this or not, the two weeks WILL pass. And then week three sucks for different reasons. Everything changes, weeks by weeks. We southern girls are as fragile as coal trucks. We can survive anything... And thrive.

If you only had one coke a day, not sure your body would miss it. If you drink half a dozen or more (or the same in coffees), you want to taper off gradually. Caffeine withdrawals for heavy consumers definitely occur and can be pretty bad at first - been there while camping coffeelessly, am normally a heavy coffee drinker.

You should try to make sure you get enough hydration, as well as enough Vitamins and iron/minerals - take a good daily Multivitamin and if the plan allows it, eat a variety of vegetables, green leafy salads and fruits.

Another question - Are you prone to Migraines normally?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
