Yep, I understand. I had a band in for about 5 years and lost all up 17 kgs. I did not tell my family as I was embarrassed (rightly or wrongly). But just before Christmas last year it slipped and had to be removed urgently and I needed my mum to look after my children. After I told my mum, who has been 'dieting' every day of my life, turned around and said, "Well it obviously didn't work did it?"

I am now considering the sleeve as I have regained about 10 kgs (although the Dr did say some of that would be fluids as I had not even kept Water down for ages). I will not be telling her! I already feel like a failure, I don't need her help.

I totally understand and when the negativity comes from those we least expect it from, it somehow hurts worse. I now realize that most of these people want the surgery for themselves, but just don't have the nerve, motivation & commitment to pursue the surgery like we do/did.

I didn't tell to many others after hearing those rude comments.

However, after I had the surgery I decided I wasn't hiding it & I would be ready to respond to any comments that were rude or inconsiderate. Best of luck to you in your new weight loss journey.

Hi I'm sorry this happened to you seems ppl feel they can speak to us however they please sometimes you just can't count on family for support but usually they are quick to criticize you have to try to be as strong as you can alone if u must it's your life and your decision not theirs they don't get a vote I had a lot of oh you had surgery comments not that they said much but the tone implied they didn't approve however I'm not ashamed and told anyone who commented I didn't care what they thought so they could just keep their opinions to themselves and if they thought it was so "easy" they should go thru the process have the surgery and when they reach at least 6 months post op we can revisit this discussion and what exactly they think is " easy" about it that shut down that shit show pretty fast...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
