Pre Op Diet... Surgery date close

Recommended Posts

Started pre op diet on 1/26/16 for 2/9/16 scheduled surgery date. I'm eating less than 800 calories and walking approximately 5000 steps per day.

My plan for the final 9 days before surgery is to workout at the gym daily with a goal of 10,000 steps per day, to ensure I give myself the best possible chance to finally get the weight off.

Hope it's all worth it in the end!

I begin the pre op diet tomorrow. I feel fairly confident that I can do this. I am having surgery on 2/15. I pretty much have my days scheduled so that I get get all my nutrients. I have scheduled exercise. My biggest problem is that I have led a pretty sedentary life for a long time. I have to get off the couch and on my feet and begin walking, starting slowly but being consistent. I will walk each day and build up my number of steps each day. I also hope to go to the gym next week and work out. During my younger years I was very athletic. I LOVED being active. Depression and medication have been my worst enemies. Tomorrow is the beginning of my new life. I wish you all the best!

Same to you! We can do this!!

Today I figured out that food has been my best friend. Sad times, fun times, game time, going out time, just all the time... food. If food is blocking me from my goals then I'm making the right decision. Just praying it's all worth it in the end.

Keep me posted. Just finished working out for today! You can do this!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
