msaid101 7 Posted January 31, 2016 Hello All I'm new and planning my surgery for next week. Prior to all this we had planned a few days at Disney and then a week long Cruise. My question is, I'll be about 6 weeks post op when starting our trip. Is it do-able or am I going to crash and burn from exhaustion. Thanks
shriner37 249 Posted January 31, 2016 At 6 weeks I was still on soft foods. My doctor did allow me to advance to regular foods at that time (his usual time for regular foods is 8 weeks) as I had a trip scheduled and would be in hotels all week. I would say it depends on your physical condition and general health status. By 6 weeks out I was back to full strength and stamina and didn't have any problems. The biggest issue was sticking to the limited eating program while traveling.

jess9395 5,449 Posted January 31, 2016 I went to Disneyland even earlier out that that. Just plan ahead and pack what you need and you will be ok! You might need to stop and rest more often than normal, but part of it is enjoying the atmosphere and taking it all in! I was on "any food you can tolerate" by six weeks, but it was helpful to not have to worry about whether a food would sit well so I packed a lot of my favorites to take along. marcy0912 66 Posted February 1, 2016 (edited) We cruised at 10 weeks out. Things went really well. A few tips to share. Bring Protein supplements. I brought a box of premier shakes and some bars. Ended up not eating the bars, but always had 2 shakes a day. We ended up eating at the buffet for all meals. The biggest tip... Always take a small plate. It's too easy to take too much with a big plate. I took too much food once with a big plate. Learned that the hard way. I am an early riser so would have room service deliver coffee at about 7. DW and I would sit on the balcony and enjoy the quiet morning. I would have some coffee and a Protein shake. Then we would either hit the gym or walk up on the jogging track for 45 minutes then the buffet for Breakfast. Breakfasts were easy. Usually a scrambled egg and maybe a piece of bacon. Lunches usually consisted of a bun less hamburger or whatever meat they had at the carving station. This is where a small plate is critical. For dinner, we stayed with the buffet. With only being able to eat a few ounces, the thought of a 2 hour multi course dinner just did not appeal to us. So dinner, like lunch was a small portion of whatever Protein they had. Usually a choice of some type of beef or chicken. Only once did a hostess question my small plate, but she was very friend,y and I just told her that I am watching what I eat. I would usually let them bring me a Water or iced tea that I would just bring back to the cabin. I then usually had an other Protein Shake before bed. That was a 4 night cruise. Leaving in 2 weeks for a full 7 nighter. Even thought I'm 4.5 months out (and 45# down), don't plan to change anything. With Disney, there are plenty of options for eating clean. Just always choose a small plate and your chances of overeating will be less. You will be doing a ton of walking so always carry a water bottle with you. Same on the cruise. Take one from home. Not sure which line you are going on, but we sail Royal Caribbean and there are always plenty of places to refill. We are very frequent cruisers, and the first post sleeve one was very interesting, but in a good way. Instead of the focus on what can I eat next, it was what activities can we do, or shows to see or trivia, bingo, etc. Just have a great time and focus on what you can do, not what you can't. Pescador 1,374 Posted February 2, 2016 If you can eat Protein Bars you can eat anything. Scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, soft fish, there. So many options. Enjoy your trip and just have a fanny pack, string cheese, Protein Shakes. The happiest, healthiest, and least hungry I was, was about six weeks post surgery! Have fun!!!
