My wife had the sleeve done Nov. 2014 and she has done great other than her galbladder needed to come out 6 months after. She's been after me to get it done to of course. I've lost 75 plus lbs. 3-4 times doing Adkins and other diets limiting carbs to 45 per meal. I always gain it back quicker than I lost it I get to comfortable after I lose the weight I guess. I gravitate back to 320 or so. Its very frustrating. I have high blood pressure and now Osteoarthritis in my knees so I think I'm gonna get the sleeve done. I've been approve by insurance and waiting for my 1st consuultation visit. I know I can stick to the Protein and Veg. diet i've done it before. It's when I get back on carbs and years down the road that concern me. I know a few people who've had the sleeve done and gain a lot of weight back 5 years out or so. I just don't know if it's going to be worth it long term. All I can do is pray for Our Lords help I guess.

I think it is staying with the core principles.

1. Don't drink when you eat (empties sleeve too soon)

2. Limit sugar (the addiction factor is too high)

3. Protein first, veg second, carbs if you have room.

4. Three meals a day, no snacking!

I think keeping it simple makes it doable!

What is hard is not wanting to eat all the time and I hope removing the hunger hormone will help. Two days on the liquid diet have been good to me so far and just strengthens my resolve! I know I will not be the same person with the same habits and that's the point. If I keep doing what I am doing I'll end up where I have been. I'm ready for new scenery!

Forgot a few...

1. Don't feed them after midnight

2. Don't get them wet!

One of the things my surgeon told me that keeps sticking with me is if you dont change what youve always done you will end up back to the same place. So when you go to the doc and you are putting on weight, he asks "What exercise have you been doing?" And you tell him "Walking" hes going to tell you "That didnt work before the surgery so what makes you think thats going to work after the surgery?" For me, that was huge paradigm shift for me; a game changer.

The surgery is a tool, not a magic procedure. Just like you have to work at losing weight/maintaining weight without surgery, you have to work at it afterwards only you have a little help with the surgery :)

My surgeon also said, "If you dont stick to the program and eat and exercise properly, you end up just being an annuity for me because you're going to want another type of surgery." Bam! Youre just going to keep putting money in some doctors pockets. Whether its for additional surgery or additional medical issues caused by the weight. I want off that gravy train.

Git er done! :)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
