It gets better! I went through the same thing. In reality, there really isn't much you CANT have in the long run. I had a little bit of Pasta but made sure I ate the chicken first. I certainly won't make a habit out of it but it's nice to know that if I want a small portion I can have it and it's not the end of the world.

I still get repulsed by some foods at 9 weeks out. Yogurt is absolutely disgusting and I can't get it down even though I try. Right after surgery Protein shakes in all forms made me gag. It's much more pleasant once you get moved to real food.

My surgery was also 1/25. It was rough for 4 days, but something finally clicked on day 5. Walking helps a ton. I'm dreaming of crackers the way a person wearing a nicotine patch missed smoking, but I know I can get through it.

I am feeling much better now! Few things I wanna address from comments people have made

1. WALK! I swear it's a HUGE difference once you walk enough to pass the gas that's in your belly from surgery

2. I'm 8 days out & starting to feel human again.

3. Get your Protein and fluids in- YES it takes ALLLL DAY to do.

First month of surgery is optimal weight loss, if you don't give your body Protein it will just go into starve mode and you won't lose anything.

*Progress update: I was 274 before liquid diet, weighed 254 today!

I experienced serious remorse my first week post op. I wanted to eat real food, and I craved nachos! Just remember that the beginning is HARD. It absolutely will get better. Your new stomach will become your new way of life, and when you see the pounds coming off and you are feeling great, this early recovery time will all be a distant memory.

My surgery is Wed. Feb 10th, Palm Springs, Ca. I'm excited & terrified all at the same time. I know I have made the right decision however, I wish I had more faith in myself.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
