Adina's_Journey 76 Posted January 30, 2016 Ok, I am scheduled for surgery on Feb. 1st. I am asking all you girls that have already undergone sleeve surgery. Did you guys shave it all down there, did you not do that and wake up and it was shaved? Not that I dont keep it nice and trim down there, just wondering if I should do that myself before I go? Im sorry if this is question bothers anyone, I didnt mean to. Thanking you guys in advance 1 SallyH reacted to this
perforce 243 Posted January 30, 2016 My pre-op stuff said shave it yourself before you arrive or they will make me shave it there, however my room comes with a private bathroom so I can do that. There was a sentence/warning saying the nurses may do it for you. That sounded kind of mortifying so I will do myself before getting there. I think it's in case they need to put a catheter in. 1 dmpsam reacted to this
Adina's_Journey 76 Posted January 30, 2016 Thank you, I didnt see anything about it in my pre op paperwork. i much prefer to handle that task myself. 1 SlimStacey reacted to this
Babbs 14,681 Posted January 30, 2016 I didn't shave and wasn't shaved either, and I had a catheter. 1 Finally17 reacted to this
Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted January 30, 2016 I didn't shave, wasn't shaved, and didn't have a catheter. I was given very detailed instructions about what to do to prep for surgery and this certainly wasn't mentioned. 3 Finally17, TheNewMrsR and rnymorales reacted to this
perforce 243 Posted January 30, 2016 (edited) It was mentioned twice in mine, so they obviously have strong feelings on the subject. Given that I'm sure the nurses enjoy shaving our lady bits as much as I would enjoy having them shaved, I'd like to spare us all. It mentioned after they make you have a shower immediately pre-op they will check if you are actually shaved. Maybe it's just a sanitary thing your hospital does? Yeah, go ahead and shave so that's one less thing you have to worry about
Adina's_Journey 76 Posted January 30, 2016 Thanks you guys, I think as Babbs said, I will go ahead and handle this myself just in case. 2 ItsJustMeToo and Crmartin reacted to this

perforce 243 Posted January 30, 2016 My paperwork said it's rare they do, I'm really hoping they don't need to.
Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted January 30, 2016 Why not just ask? Either ask your surgeon's office or ask when you go through your pre admission. 1 Moms_turn5 reacted to this
M!@ 320 Posted January 30, 2016 As the first thing they want you to do after surgery is walk, my surgeon does not use a cath. And with them pumping IV Fluid the urge comes rather quickly after waking. That being said, even with a cath, I don't see the need to be clean shaven. I was not worried, I make sugar wax at home to use. Cheap and easy, and for some reason my husband likes to help. Ok that was TMI. 2 Biddy zz 🏳️🌈 and Crmartin reacted to this
MayMarie 349 Posted January 30, 2016 I cannot see any reason why it would need to be shaved for gastric surgery, in fact shaving any area that a surgery is being performed on increases risk of infection due to nics and scratches 5 lvmommy2k, MrsGamgee, 1poundatatime and 2 others reacted to this
MayMarie 349 Posted January 30, 2016 Very interested in knowing your surgical teams reason for being so adamant about a shaved vagina for an abdominal surgery. I am an RN and have never heard of or seen that. 9 Anabugg, Erkaderka, 2 juicey4u and 6 others reacted to this
