Ack! Only Starbucks for the weekend

Recommended Posts

I stand corrected on the calories in espresso! But I'm jealous of your Starbucks! Ours only has sugar free vanilla, hazelnut and mocha. No other SF syrups!

I just read my post again...I apologize as I didn't mean for it to come across snotty, as I think it kind of did. That was not my intention. I have worked for Starbucks for 11 years and fortunately, as a perk, I get to try everything and test out a lot of different varieties without having to pay a fortune for doing so. Is the Starbucks you visit a freestanding store or a licensed store(inside a target, a freeway oasis, airport, grocery store, etc..)? Those tend to have more limited varieties than actual stores. Even with our variety, I still buy sugar free Torani syrups from a neighboring grocery store because they have such a huge selection and add to my tumbler to just add espresso and milk to.

Oh you didn't sound snotty not at all! Sorry if my reply made it sound that way!

I frequent two freestanding and those are the only SF ones on their menu. Maybe they have more they just don't put on the menu and I need to ask for?

So if you work there here's a Q for you--I love the flat white! Why is the calorie and sugar count higher on those? What's actually in them?

Unless you order the flat white with nonfat milk, the standard is whole milk. It also has an additional shot of espresso(tall-2, grande and Venti-3). Also, yes, they change the menu boards frequently and there's no way they could possibly put everything on there. The "standards" that a regular store should carry for sugar free are mocha, vanilla, hazelnut, caramel, and cinnamon dolce. I don't know if you've ever had cinnamon dolce, but it's a buttery cinnamon, not "spicy". It is supposed to resemble like a buttered cinnamon toast like you eat as a kid, with the cinnamon/sugar sprinkled on top. It's very popular, at least here in the Midwest stores.

So if I order it nonfat it doesn't have any added sugar in the flat white? Cool!

Cinnamon Dolce sounds wonderful I will ask if they have it at mine!

This thread is a great Starbucks education. Have never seen this discussed anywhere online. Thanks to all. (I always feel like such a dope standing in a SB line.)

Tall flat white. No fake sweetener needed. It comes naturally sweet and mild because of how the espresso is done.

I'm still curious why a flat white with nonfat has so many more calories than a Cappuccino with nonfat.... What's IN it to make up those calories? It's definitely sweeter. Has more carbs and more Protein too. Is t just more milk?post-194772-14542715153992_thumb.jpg post-194772-14542715279992_thumb.jpg

I like the skimmed milk steam with one pump of sugar free vanilla. Pre-surgery I lived at Starbucks--and drank tons of calories. Today, I try not to order anything but that one drink per day only a couple of times a week. The rest of the time I order mint tea and sweeten it with Splenda.

A cappuccino is(or at least should be) shots of espresso with half steamed milk, half foam...the flat white is the shots of espresso(pulled what's called ristretto style so they pull differently than regular shots) and it does have more milk. The milk is foamed but instead of free pouring to get that half milk/half foam, it is poured in a slow stream with a dollop of foam on top. The milk is steamed to be denser than a cappuccino's milk. Hope that helps clarify a bit.

I work at Starbucks and I flat white is made with whole milk and ristretto shots, ristretto shots are the sweeter part of the espresso without the bitterness, and the whole milk gives it a natural sweetness. My favorite each day is iced coffee with sugar free French vanilla and cream.

A flat white*

So the extra calories/carbs/etc are just because it has more milk then basically, right?

Correct. It has more milk vs. foam. Still a healthy option if you go nonfat and if you're craving some flavor, add some sugar free Syrup for no added calories/carbs/fat.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
