Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted January 28, 2016 Here is an interesting article about some recent research findings related to calorie burning thresholds. More evidence about how our metabolism is a complex system. Here's why you exercise so much and still can't lose weight http://www.cnn.com/2016/01/28/health/weight-loss-exercise-plateau/index.html

Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted January 29, 2016 I found it reassuring. The way I read it, moderate, sane exercise is optimal: spending hours and hours in the gym isn't healthier. I keep seeing visions of those poor, tortured souls on The Biggest Loser futilely shaking those ropes for hours.
mngreeneyes 674 Posted January 29, 2016 @@Inner Surfer Girl Thanks, great article! very eye opening and reassuring. As my "last ditch effort" before considering surgery, I went to a weight management clinic and started meeting with a "fat psychologist". (He was actually a very thin man, but that's what I called him!) He had shown me studies that said to lose weight I needed to exercise 2 hours a day! I work full-time so it was a challenge, but I kept it up for the better part of a year. I lost 25 pounds in the first 2 months and then stopped losing! No matter what I did I could not get out of the stall. Then I stopped taking Victoza and gained the 10 pounds I lost when I started that. To say that I got frustrated was an understatement. I gave up for about a year. I still was pretty active, but not focused. I gained it all back plus about 10 more. Then my knees started hurting climbing the stairs to my apartment and my journey to surgery began. My Fat psychologist seemed to think I was cheating somewhere so I wasn't losing, but I really was trying. Now I have some idea of why. Thanks again, pam
2goldengirl 2,076 Posted January 29, 2016 Very interesting. This would explain why people who do change it up in order to keep themselves fresh may be more successful. It's a small study to be sure, but it will be interesting to see more on this!
LosingLily16 13 Posted March 2, 2016 I'm at a plateau now and I want to cry. I'm seven weeks post op and I stay within a 900 calorie range and I workout three days a week sometimes 4. But today my weight is the same as last week and I feel so bad

Just follow your program, focus on getting in all of your Protein and Water, avoid starches and added sugars, take your Vitamins and supplements as directed, stay off the scale, and exercise. Embrace the Stall! http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall
HanSolo1977 261 Posted March 3, 2016 Very interesting. This would explain why people who do change it up in order to keep themselves fresh may be more successful. It's a small study to be sure, but it will be interesting to see more on this! The trainer I've worked with in the past has given me 3-4 sets of things to do... so that I can switch up upon occasion for this very reason.
