Protein shakes burn out!

Recommended Posts

Any suggestions on Protein Drinks. I'm so burnt out on the Protein drinks. Surgery was Nov 17th. To the point where hard time drinking them. Any other ideas how I can get my protein in for the day. I'm on solid foods.

Are you allowed Snacks? What is your Protein goal? If you are looking for 75 grams of protein in a meal, you can get that from 3 meals of 3 ounces of meat, then have Greek yogurt or turkey Jerky for a snack.< /p>

I switched to Protein bars the minute I was allowed solid foods, because I was SO OVER shakes. You just have to be very choosy and make sure you don't get anything high in net carbs, sugar, or saturated fat. I used to swear by Quest Bars until they changed their main ingredient and now they do NOT agree with my intestines. I now use Combat Crunch Bars, but they are a little higher in calories and net carbs, so I am not sure I'd recommend them for the weight loss stage (I'm in maintenance).

You should be able to get a LOT of your Protein from food by now as well. Greek yogurt, string cheese, and turkey snack sticks were all good ways for me to get protein in between meals. For meals themselves, make sure you are making high protein choices and always putting your protein first.

I also recommend yogurt as a Protein source. Fage's plain yogurt has under 10 grams of carbs, and more than 20 grams of Protein. The actual amounts vary a little depending on whether you're having the fat-free, low-fat, or regular yogurt. Fairlife milk is also high in protein. I get the 2% smaller single serving bottles to bring with me to work sometimes. They have 19 grams of protein. Some kefir is higher in protein, but you have to check the label because some have a lot of sugar. I use all three as bases for smoothies. Raspberries are my favorite because they are lower in carbs.

I've seen recipes for healthier egg custards on Pinterest, but haven't actually made one. I've been planning to, and one of these days I actually will. You can find a lot of recipes on Pinterest for post-VSG eating.

I guess I was never really told how much Protein to have in a day. I always choice my high protein meal first. Turkey, chicken, Greek yogurt, cheese. eggs. I feel great, lose weight like I should. I just nervous I don't want to be malnutrition. Lol. I do three meals. One snack. I have started doing Protein Bar as well.

I just read on the Quest sure they went back to their original formula

No. I received an email from their customer service. They did not change their main ingredient back, just made changes to their formula to improve the taste and get their bars back to what they tasted like with old ingredient. They are still using soluble corn Fiber (new ingredient), instead of isomalto-oligosaccharide (old ingredient). I was SO excited when I first saw that email, thinking they were switching back. But then I read the whole thing and found out that they were only addressing customer concerns over the flavor, not the digestive discomfort a lot of us had experienced.

That's pretty shocking. My protein target is the MAIN thing my nutritionist focused on. She didn't care about calories at all, just wanted to make sure I got up to 100 grams of protein a day as quickly as possible.

My surgery was also in November and I switched to Protein Bars instead of shakes for the same reason. The Quest bars have worked well for me. As others have said, Greek yogurt is also a really good way to easily get Protein. I have found that there can be a lot of variation in sugar content with Greek yogurt, so I have to pay attention to the label. Most days involve a Quest bar, a couple of servings of Greek yogurt, and grilled chicken breast for lunch and dinner. I now have no problem hitting around 100 g of protein and still sticking with a reasonable caloric intake.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
