Stomach stretching and food consumption post-surgery

Recommended Posts

This video was posted in a private Facebook group I'm a part of and I thought some people might want to watch it. I found it interesting and he explains things quite clearly and simply (though I don't think they treat it simplistically, which was nice).

The title says 'how to stop stomach stretching' but it's actually talking about eating post op and some of the reasons people regain, how to avoid it etc. It also discusses how portion size changes further out post op an some other things.

I am so frustrated with myself. I had the gastric sleeve surgery August 2013. At first it was difficult to get used to but after the weight started coming off I loved it! Within a year I had lost 100 pounds. I felt invincible. In the middle of that year I noticed I was able to eat whatever I wanted (much smaller portions but still whatever I wanted) and the weight was STILL coming off! I know that was not a good idea but I did get used to doing this. After the year was over the weight stopped coming off ... It has now been 2.5 years and I have gained 10 pounds back. I am able to eat pretty much the amount of a normal person and I have to watch my weight constantly. I try to eat as little and as healthy as I can but the weight will NOT come off. I REGRET not sticking to a strict diet during the first year because I could have lost so much more weight. I am grateful for the weight that I lost but still so frustrated with myself of what could have been. I want to lose 20 more pounds. I do feel as if after the first year I have not been able to move the scale no matter what I do. It's weird and very frustrating after that year of remarkable weight loss while still eating what I loved. I might have stretched my sleeve too. I feel like I'm back in high school obsessing and yoyo dieting again. Does anyone have any encouragement?

@@thin4life14 it's gonna be ok...I think some people do gain weight after a certain point then have to start putting the hard work back into place to keep losing and maintaining. Have you been exercising also? It's easy to get discouraged but you shouldn't...you've come this far so you can't give up now.

This is a great video. It just underscores the great gift that the surgery gives us to change the way we eat and exercise for the rest of our lives. If there's one thing I've learned from this website it's that you have to change or you will regain. That's partly why I keep coming back here to keep motivated!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
