Tomorrow I get to check yet another task off my to-do list...I get my psych eval. The counselor who scheduled me said to expect an hour in the office. I'm wondering how she will make a decision after only an hour. Heck I don't know what she's going to decide on! What did your psych eval entail?

It isn't as scary as it sounds. Most likely he or she will be evaluating your overall mental health (i.e. you're not obviously delusional or something), how realistic you are about why you're getting the surgery, if you fully understand the risks and the huge amount of work that goes into maintaining your health afterward. The surgery isn't for the faint of heart or for people who think it's going to be some kind of magic trick that fixes everything and then you move on with your life. As long as you're not crazy (technically speaking :P) and know the risks and the work necessary, you'll probably do perfectly fine. :)

I just did my psych eval. The psychologist asked about my weight history, my support system, what I do when I'm stressed, and my relationship with alcohol, drugs, coffee, tea, and soda. She also warned me about depression after surgery, why people get it, and how to deal with it. She seemed primarily interested in making sure that I know what to expect mentally after surgery and how to deal with it. I had to fill out two questionnaires also, and those will be evaluated later, and the results added to my file. The longest questionnaire (175 questions) seemed to be looking for signs of a variety of major mental issues. The second questionnaire was focused on depression only and was perhaps 30 questions. Overall, it was a very good experience and quite informative.

You'll be fine. I had to fill out a questionnaire before meeting with the psychologist. We went over the that. Most of it was just making sure I understood what the surgery consists of and that it requires a lifestyle change. Also asked if I had a support system and my past weight loss attempts and why I thought I was unsuccessful. Mine was about an hour also.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
