4 days post op struggling with vitamin drink

Recommended Posts

Hi I was sleeved on the 25th of Jan and my recovery has been quite rough. I'm on day 4 and going home today. My pains are a lot worse than yesterday though (maybe I moved around too much) and my doc has prescribed me a Multivitamin that you pop in Water drink, it's some orange flavoured thing which is slightly carbonated, but even after leaving it 30 mins for all the "fizz" to go after 2 sips I feel so nauseas and light headed, anyone have any tips for taking it?

Thanks

Go with a different Multivitamin. Odd the your dr would give you anything with fizz.

@Joshua Torode sorry to hear you have had so much trouble. I had surgery the 25th also, but went home the next day. Continues to be hard to get the fluids down....everything tastes icky to me. Nausea continues...feeling down, hope this passes soon. .

I am 4 days post op as well and my pain is getting much better!! I'm really only having issues with the gas pains in my shoulder and neck area. They are the worst.

For my multivitamin's I am using the Celebrate brand. They are a chewable Vitamin and they aren't bad at all!! I would give them a try.

You can probably get away with skipping the multivitamin for these first couple of days. I didn't start back on a multi-Vitamin until 7 days post-op, when I was cleared to swallow pills, since my Multi-Vitamin is a capsule. That was all at the instruction of my surgeon.

Are you having similar difficulty with plain Water or is it just the multi-vitamin that's causing you problems. I too am very surprised your surgeon would put you on anything fizzy. That sounds like a recipe for disaster so soon post-op!

@@Joshua Torode - I would tell them NOW while you are in the hospital that you feel light headed. Ask about the Vitamins as well. I would go chewable at this point (no fizz).

Mine was pretty similar to this. I was put on a chewable and told to wait one week before I bothered. They wanted me to concentrate on getting liquids down.

What @@JamieLogical said. I was told to start Vitamins 7 days out and I used a multi that I actually now like and have been on it ever since. The first week was rough pain wise as well as very difficult to get my liquids in. I was on Clear Liquids for the first 7 to 10 days and don't think I could have done a proper shake at 4 days. Hang in there. It gets better. Promise.

One the fourth day I had a real Protein Shakes and the pain/gas in my stomach subsided tremendously. It was like my stomach wanted something of substance. I also stopped taking pain meds that day, which might have helped.

This is only my third day post-op. Gas pains, especially in my shoulders have been my worst complaint. Today, my first full day at home I have been alternating 30 cc's of Premier Protein shake and herbal tea. I have an alarm in my phone set to go off every 15 minutes. That's all I do is drink little cups of fluid! Know I need to walk, but except to the bathroom, etc., really have not tried. Decided to try today without pain or nausea meds. So far do good. I may do pain meds if I have trouble sleeping. I don't feel great, but I'm surviving. No Vitamins until after two week post op appointment. I feel blessed to be retired so that I can totally focus on drinking Water and Protein. Certainly not fun, but hopefully will be worth it!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
