TMI Question...that may not make sense!

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I have a serious question but I want y'all opinion before I call my surgeon and he laughs at me!

I am getting kind of sick, running nose, etc. The issue is I have a lot of drainage down the back of my throat, and it's going to my stomach I assume (? not a doctor here). Anyway, could this be causing my nausea? I haven't had any at all before now, and this morning I ate what I always do and got extremely nauseas, tonight I had one bite of something I eat all the time (just turkey lunch meat wrapped around a cheese stick) and the same thing happened.

No fever or anything.

Could this be causing it?? I don't wanna call him and look like an idiot if I don't have to!

It certainly could be. I used to get nausea from too much drainage before my surgery. It hasn't happened since, but it makes sense that it could... the drainage sure leaves my throat raw and irritated.

Ok, I will call them tomorrow and see. I may just need to call my PCP for a prescription. I really feel like that's what it is. I just didn't wanna seem crazy! haha or crazier...since I've called them my fair share of times!

Post nasal drip most definitely could be the cause of your nausea.

I can't guess whether the drip is causing nausea or you've picked up a bug or something else, but all things are possible. What caught my attention in your post was that last part. Surgeons and other doctors have heard it all before. If you're human, you've looked like an idiot before and you will again: It's like weather. That, of course, is based on my own experience. If your surgeon is a humorless chap, tell him to turn up those little corners.

Oooh, oooh, how could I forget the chestnut, "The only stupid question is the one that isn't asked." Peace of mind and all that.

I have pretty bad dust allergies so when I get any kind of phlegm in my stomach, it makes me very nauseous. I asked a doctor about it before and he said that there is a ton of bacteria and yucky stuff in the phlegm that our stomach wasn't designed to break down or deal with. This causes the upset or nauseous feeling at least in my case. I know you're drinking all of your Water like you should be :P but make sure you stay hydrated to dilute the yucky stuff in your tummy. Tea always helped me. I hope you fee better!

So yeah now I'm full on SICK. Got a Rx. Now it's so bad that if anything at all not liquid hits my stomach it's instant nausea. I even threw up last night, pure mucus (eeew!!)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
