But in all seriousness, before someone takes medical advice from an untrained person over the internet, they should try to validate the information through reputable medical journals & studies and WLS hospitals; then asking their surgeon and/or PCP to make sure (with reasonable questions or concerns, not such as: "Is it ok to eat Tacos at 2 weeks post WLS).

How did I miss this!! Reading through I had so many " so take that B" comments I wanted to make and now I'm just pissed that I've missed that opportunity! I'm going to have to really reevaluate some of my "friendships" on here! Somebody should have rang the alarm and let me know there was a fire going! I miss all the good stuff! Granted I skipped over the sleeve stretch debate because quite frankly I find it booooring! Common sense says if you eat a massive amount of calories in a day your a** will get fat.....SURPRISE!!!!! Maybe that's the shocker that got some of us in here in the first place?! Just an observation. Mind blowing I know! Now, next time I would appreciate it if someone would get me involved in the online drama, it keeps my hands out of the cookie jar when I'm playing keyboard warrior! It's called being a decent friend...duh! Oh and FYI I'm extremely disappointed in some of you! You know who you are! Let's just keep it simple. If there's ANY time where I could pull out the "butt hurt" form I should be immediately notified! Capeesh?!

Important to remember this is the Internet and what is on here doesn't necessarily represent us as people. It's also import o remember that people can actually get hurt on here and cruelty is cruelty no matter whether it's online or in real life

I think @@VSGAnn2014 and @@Babbs gave you the best advice then. If strangers on the Internet can really get to you that deeply and you have the ability to block them, you absolutely should. Do you know how?

Just a guess, but I imagine her hangover could easily rival how horrible you felt. :D

*WARNING: DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME*

I did an experiment yesterday partly inspired by this thread and partly inspired by my half marathon training. I was curious to see how much food I *could* eat in a day if I truly tried. I set my goal at 3000 calories. I wanted to see how easy it would be to eat around my sleeve and also wanted to know how many calories I could get in if I forced the issue, since I've really been worrying about how to eat ENOUGH calories before my long runs and my half marathon.

I almost made it to 3000 calories. I finished the day at 2918. Close enough! Now, in order to get in that many calories, I had to eat 10 separate times and eat some truly outrageous stuff. Here is a list of everything I ate:

Three Protein Bars (breakfast and two snacks), Pork Queso Chowder for lunch (so much fat!), pizza (one whole small slice and the cheese and toppings from two other slices), a Milky Way bar, two Pop Tarts, half a piece of cake, two servings of BBQ potato chips, and two oz. of reduced fat cheese.

So, it can be done. You can definitely eat enough to gain weight. Yesterday was my rest day for my half marathon training, so I had about a 1200 calorie surplus for the day. That's certainly plenty to gain weight if I kept it up every day. But I will tell you this, I felt like ABSOLUTE CRAP. I mean really really terrible. I had a horrible headache from all the sugar. The inside of my mouth had this gross coating around it (I think from the sugar and carbs?). I had no energy. I felt like a big fat slug. And I was up two pounds on the scale (I assume the sugar is causing Water retention) this morning. I definitely do NOT recommend this to anyone ever. Just don't do it. You would think it sounds great getting to eat all this junk you hardly ever eat anymore, but it was not pleasurable.

I didn't risk eating and drinking at the same time or drinking my calories, but those would have been a couple of ways for me to potentially get more calories in. Eating 10 times in one day was truly ridiculous. Still not sure what I am going to do to "load up" on fuel for my long training runs or the half marathon itself, but it won't be this again. I don't think I need to be going into a long run feeling that crappy!

Posted this on another more appropriate thread but in case you don't see it-- you don't need as much fuel for long runs as you'd think (done a dozen halfs and a full among other distances post sleeve).

You burn aprox 100 calories per mile so even a half is only 1300 calories. Much of that you eat WHILE running (100 calories every half hour is the recommended goal). So if you run a three hour half that's 600 calories during the run itself. 200-300 before and then replenish after and you are fine!!!!!

All right...I've just spent the last I-don't-know-how-long getting all caught up on this thread, and (ignoring the squabbling - what the HECK?) I keep having the same question.

What's the big deal with carbonation, anyway?

As a lifetime lover extraordinaire of fuzzy liquids, I went through the whole 5 stages of grief on the lifetime carbonation ban, eventually making my peace with it. But I'm wondering, if liquids won't do diddly squat to stretch out my sleeve, WHY is there a lifetime ban on them? Does the gas itself not get moved into the intestines along with the liquid? Does the carbonation somehow manage to expand itself like grains in Water once it's in your tummy? How on earth would that even happen? How would it "stress" the staple line if you're more than a month or two out from surgery? It's not like the total volume would actually change, so if you're drinking it at the same pace you'd drink other liquids, why would the carbonation be problematic?

I get that the good folks at my center don't want us drinking sugary sodas, or non-sugary diet sodas (something something fake sugars seem to affect weight loss so don't drink diet soda, but have all the fake sweeteners you want in sugar-free Jello, pudding, popsicles, or Protein Shakes HUH?) BUT: I like plain carbonated water. Used to make it myself with my beloved Sodastream. Wha??? What gives?

They hurt my stomach post sleeve ???? but several of our members still drink them.

I'm not going to hit block but I think that a grown adult that comes on here and is posting how they can't believe that their 'friends' didn't let them in on some childish drama is sad. You need to grow up and whoever else agrees with you.

I'm not going to block anyone because I want to be able to defend those that may need defending against rudeness and hurtful attitudes.

I'm not going to hit block either but I think someone who can't read a post and take a joke should get a sense of humor and if thats not something that said person can acquire then one should reframe from commenting on people who do. Jealous ? Maybe that person should spend some time dislodging whatever object they have shoved up ones a**. There! Is that "grow up" enough for you? Sorry you got so offended reading a post that wasn't even directed to you nor did it have anything to do with you.....oh wait no I'm not. Actually, no.... 3 Jack Daniels, 1 Dewar's, 2 twisted teas and several shots of Apple Crown later, I was just starting to feel better after my flight delay from hell. And not an inkling of a hangover the next day. Not only am I really good at eating, I'm really good at drinking, too.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
