Juhygtfrdsd 154 Posted January 27, 2016 I am thinking of banking my own blood weeks before the surgery... But curious did anyone need blood during surgery? May not even be needed.
meganliz0824 65 Posted January 27, 2016 It's done laproscopic so you shouldn't need blood unless you take blood thinners and they hit an artery which is rare. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk
Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted January 27, 2016 My surgeon brought up this issue in the pre-op class and laughed. His attitude was that he is a skilled surgeon with a room full of high-tech equipment and a full staff. Stopping bleeding is what they do. So, no, I didn't need blood. And, I have never heard anyone on these boards talk about needing it either. If in doubt, definitely talk to your surgeon about your fears,
JamieLogical 8,710 Posted January 27, 2016 There is VERY little blood loss with this type of surgery. The only bleeding at all comes from suturing over the staple line which some surgeons do as an additional guard against leaks. You can watch videos of the surgery online to see what I mean. There is hardly any blood loss at all from the punctures they use to insert the instruments.
Kindle 8,667 Posted January 27, 2016 Unless your surgeon has a major screw up there should be almost no blood loss. Everything is cauterized as it's cut except your skin incisions.
Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted January 27, 2016 To add, the only time I've heard of bleeding is if they nick an organ (like your liver or spleen), but still they can treat it then.
