Surgery today. Miserable...any advice?

Recommended Posts

Surgery went well today but I am not doing too hot. Super nauseated/dry heaving every time I try to stand up. Not sure if it's anesthesia, pain meds or just the surgery itself. So there has been no walking. Hoping tomorrow is better. In quite a bit of pain too. Feel like there's a pit in my chest ????

No advice except to stay off BP! You just had surgery. Rest. Take your pain meds, Take your anti-nausea meds (ask for them if the nurse doesn't offer them). Wait til the nausea meds kick in and then try to walk.

It will get better, promise!

You made it! Every day will be better but you will feel like crap until you sleep a night at home... At least that was the case for me. Keep sipping the liquids and try and walk tomorrow a few times to get the gas out. Congrats on starting your journey! It will be one of the best things you ever did ????

I just had my surgery on Monday. I am still so uncomfortable and in a lot of pain. What I wouldn't give to sleep on my side. I am actually finding it more difficult to get comfortable at home than I was at the hospital. Praying this passes a bit faster. I feel like death! :(

And a big CONGRATS. I would love to stay in touch with our progress and experiences

This is MAJOR surgery. Its going to hurt bad for a short while and everyone is different. I think for me it was the age factor. From here on out every day will get a little better.

You've got to give yourself time to heal. Once you're up and walking you should start to feel progressively better. Surgery is tough, there's no way around it, and the first month or so is the worst. Hang in there, do the best you can, and before you know it things will start to get better.

Congrats!

Thanks all. Feeling a tiny bit better this morning. Forcing myself to get up more. Pain still there which is to be expected. The nausea is what is kicking my butt. They're giving me nausea meds as often as they can but still feeling it. Nurses keep talking about me going home today but I can't fathom it at the moment.

One other thing - if you aren't drinking enough, that will actually increase your nausea. How are you doing with your fluids?

I had my surgery last monday. The first day I felt the same, literally just sat at the side of the bed and got nauseated. But the second morning was a little bit better and i was able to walk. Later on the second day was terrible. The worst day so far. Lots of pain and dry heaves. But i took the nausea meds and kept walking regarless. By Wednesday ( my 3rd day) i felt so much better. Just remember it does get better. Every single day you will feel a little bit better. They say the second day is the worst. And i believe that. Stay focused and you will make it thru. I am a 9 days post op and feel great! You will get there! Stay strong :)

Not doing great with fluids. They hurt going down and make my stomach rumble which makes me feel nauseated. They are going to let me stay another night to keep me on iv.

Not going to lie, i have a medical background and i called one of my friends to give me iv fluids 2 days after I got home. Cheated a little but i needed it. I was very dehydrated. Dont be discouraged, its better yo get the fluids and stay in the hospital.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
