pierper 4 Posted January 27, 2016 I am 3 weeks into Opti Fast to reduce my liver before surgery. My surgery is FEB. 10. Anyone out there had the same problem? Did the surgery help?
Cervidae 2,389 Posted January 27, 2016 Most people have a liquid or mostly liquid pre-op diet for exactly the same reason, because a lot of overweight people have fatty liver issues. The diet will help a lot, and losing weight after surgery will help even more.
Sajijoma 1,324 Posted January 27, 2016 As long as your liver shrinks enough to perform the surgery, the surgery itself and the diet after surgery will definitely reduce your liver even more. It's a matter of getting it down enough I guess. I didn't have a pre op diet and my liver oddly was not a problem, but I hear the liquid diets before hand can be hard. Just stick to the plan. ???? it's so much better on the other side!
sallo 56 Posted January 27, 2016 Hi, I'm day 12 into the Optifast diet. Are you doing the intensive phase? (ie. just Opti & greens?). You're doing it for a long time if you've already done 3 weeks and surgery isn't until Feb 10. Mine was scheduled for Feb 5, but has now been pushed back to mid Feb. Tonight I broke the 'diet' and had pizza for dinner. Now I've gotta get back on track.
DaisyAmy 561 Posted January 27, 2016 My liver was fatty. It was my gastroenterologist who suggested the surgery. I lost a fair amount of weight with all my preop insurance time and the pre op diet. Surgeon never said a word about my liver and my surgery was a success. Good luck to you!!
