August 2007 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Hi guys:

My date is 8/13. I am both nervous and excited. I was originally scheduled for 6/18 but my insurance Aetna denied me the first time.

Anyone else getting banded in August. This will be the 2 1/2 time on Protein pre-op diet. Crazy.:sick

I'm also scheduled for 13 August with Dr. Chua in Milwaukee. Tomorrow I'm having the pre-op tests done. They've already scheduled all of my follow-up appointments including my first fill which is nice for planning purposes.

Going to be banded in one week Aug. 7th for me. I have been on the pre-op diet, done all the pre-op fun stuff, including paying $13500.00 out of pocket, as insurance will not cover WLS. Will let you all know how it goes next week.

Hey there, I am having mine done on August 2, 2007. I am a little nervous, I just keep thinking about the outcome, and it calms me down. I think I am more nervous about the bowel prep... ewwww :phanvan

I wish you all good luck with your surgeries, and all the weight loss after! I am sure we will be talking again very soon!!:D

Hey I get banded August 8th. I also am a self pay and my is 16500.00 My insurance does not cover it either. Too bad that they don't believe in us the way everyone here does. I am on my third day of liquids. No problem yet, but I am very determined to do it and get the surgery done and over with. I am a little nervous too but want to be healthy too.

I'm scheduled for 8-14-07.... I'm anxious and can't wait to get going. My insurance and pre-op testing was a breeze, in fact it went so smooth that I wondered why it was so easy. I have UPMC Ins. though. I'm not really worried about the surgery or the month or so after, I'm more concerned about the long term life change. What about you?

Hello,

I am a week post op and feeling pretty good. Now that I am no longer on the liquid Oxycoten :) I am feeling a little uncomfortable. Decent amount of swelling between the port and band incision. I was a little worried at first, because the swelling has not gone down, but my nurse said it was normal. The day after I was released, I was back in the emergency room for dehydration and shortness of breath. My stonach was so full of gas, that I wasn't able to get all the fluids I needed. So now I am on Lovenox for a month to prevent blood clots.

But now I am doing well, not hungry at all, actually, I have to remind myself to eat(drink).

Good luck to the future bandsters!

I just got banded on the 8th. I feel pretty good. Not had any real hungry pain yet. My worse thing for me is the cotton mouth. The pre-op was really easy for me except the day before surgery. I hope the rest will be as easy for me. For all who all waiting to be banded it really is not that hard. Well wishes to all

Nancy

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
