UMR insurance.. How long for approval?

Recommended Posts

I have united health care/ UMR.. It a great county government health care plan... I jumped thru all the hoops the last 7-8 months and they sent it in for approval yesterday. Just wondering how long it takes to get the approval sent back... Anyone??

I'm sure it varies for everyone . Have to consider case loads, demographics, many factors are in play. All that matters is we get approved. Lol As soon as we hear back let's post so we can compare how long it took based on location.

I have UMR and had my last nutrition apt on Sept 7th. I called my doctor's office the following Monday just to triple check that I'd done everything insurance required. There has been so many problems with the staff turnover there and subsequently dropping the ball, that I am paranoid to the point I dream about getting denied! They said I had done everything required and that they'd send it in to UMR that Wednesday. I plan to call UMR on Friday to see if it was really all sent in. My fingers are permanently crossed.

Just called UMR and was told they have no pending surgical preauthorizations for me! last diet apt was 9/7 and was told they would send everthing to UMR asap. The UMR rep said their turnaround is 15 business days from when they get it. UMR has proceeded all my bills correctly for everything related to this, with no questions. I have UMR PPO 80/20 with $1500 deductible, which I have met. Bariatric surgery is covered under my plan. I've done everything; six mos diet; psych; scope; blood; EKG; lost weight; sleep study. I guess the lesson is we need to stay on our doctor's office to get the stuff in to UMR.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
