No - I had an ovarian tumor the size of a big orange taken out; the weight of it twisted around the ovary and fallopian tube (called ovarian torsion; as a point of reference, the analogous structure on the male body is the testis) and smothered it. I had to get the ovary and tube taken out along with it.

So no, I'm not too scared about pain, etc. with regards to the sleeve. It can't be any worse than what I've been through. And that prior surgery really wasn't too bad - it was way easier than I'd expected and knowing I was going to get the result I wanted (in that case no more pain) made all the difference when I was scared and looking ahead.

No, not my first surgery. I was 3 or 4 when I had surgery on my hands as a kid. In high school I had surgery after being hit by a car which broke my ankle in 3 places and dislocated my foot from it's socket. I wasn't put under when I had my daughter, but was taken to the OR because they had to use forceps to help her out, she was 10lbs 5oz!

So I'm not really afraid of the pain from surgery, I figure I've been through worse and survived. Also, the pain from surgery very quickly becomes a distant memory.

Yeah, I was TERRIFIED about the possibility of death with my ovarian surgery. I cried and cried a few days beforehand. Thank goodness they give you something to relax before the surgery. The nurses were phenomenally reassuring as well. I had a brief moment of panic when they put the mask on my face, but I was knocked out almost instantly and just as instantly (or so it seemed) woke up in recovery.

One thing that reassures me about the sleeve is that my surgeon has done over 800 bariatric procedures and has had no deaths. I keep reminding myself of that. The chance is always there, but it's slim.

I have a lot of fear too. I think it's normal. I've had two c-sections, a lymphnode removal (from my throat area) and wisdom teeth removal.

I have more fear about the nausea from the damn anesthesia than anything. I hate waking up and feeling like I'm gonna hurl!

This was my first surgery ever, I was a bit scared but when I went in to the pre-op holding area I was holding it together; not having my husband with me dropped my guard. My surgery was delayed by two hours because the person ahead of me had some complications because their stomach was too big. I had been napping off and on and just getting more nervous as time went by. I was tearing up and then trying to "suck it up", distract myself by counting ceiling tiles, grommets on the curtains etc. The nurses were checking up on me and asked if I was ok and i lost it and started bawling. They went and got the Dr. and Anesthesiologist and they calmed me down and gave me some drugs to help. After that all was good. They wheeled me into the OR a bit later and last thing I remember was the Anesthesiologist telling me to "enjoy the good stuff." Next thing I know I was done.

P.S. I am a control freak so this was all me.

I gave birth to my twins without a drop of pain meds and honestly, the labor pains were far worst than the gas pains I experienced post-surgery. Labor pains are no joke. I remember them to this day and my twins will be 21 in June. I had carpal tunnel release surgery on both hands, so I did have surgery previously and knew what to expect, especially as you sit in the pre-surgery area. I was more anxious with the hand surgeries but in full disclosure, I was late for my sleeve. I was supposed to be at the hospital at 5:30 for a 7:30 surgery. I got there at 6:10. By the time I finished the paperwork and testing, it was 7:15 and my surgeon and anesthesiologist were looking for me. I to rush and get gowned. I never made it to the pre-surgery area.

I felt like I had done 100 sit ups for 5 days. Also had pain in my neck shoulder area that only lasted 4-5 days. It was amazingly easy.

Ladies its NOT the pain im worried about...its the being under and knowing that despite why we are doing this (health) ANY surgery has a small percentage of death....thats my fear. I have no family and i dont want my kids alone...feeling the way i did when i was a kid and my parents died.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
