Post op Diet! What do you eat now?

Recommended Posts

Hello! So I got sleeved on January 13th. I am currently 26lbs down (yay!) Anyways, my sister got sleeved about a year ago and now eats everything! Like I'm saying she eats pizza, coke, chips everything that she ate before (in smaller portions of course) she weighed 187 and now weighs 137. She only followed the diet for 3 months before started eating everything. She is still loosing weight. I guess my question is when did you start eating everything and have you gained any weight because of it? How long have you had the sleeve surgery? And how long should we follow the diet for before beginning to eat other things?

I'm more than two years out lost 135lbs and have maintained for over a year. I still follow the diet 90% of the time. I have occasional treats and such but some stuff (sodas, bread, rice, etc) I have given up permanenty

I guess I was just wondering if she will eventually gain weight again. I know I wouldn't want to do that as I don't want to go through all this journey just to gain weight again.

I was sleeved. June 2014 - Began maintenance phase December 2014

Maintaining is finding your new balance for what scale number your comfortable with. My food choices can make the scale move up. I know it just means some extra time at the gym. For me, I eat healthy and I can indulge once in a while. My relationship with food has changed. I look at food to fuel and nourish my body. I don't feel good if I consume junk food all day.

You will only get out of surgery what you are willing to put into it. It's your choice if you follow your plan that was given to you while in weight loss phase. We are adults here right? Just be prepared to accept your outcome.

Wishing you the best,

Jenn

I'm just over two years out. I didn't eat "off plan" until I was under goal, 100 pounds down about 7 months post. I could then eat pretty much anything and everything (in smaller portions) without regain until about 18 months out. Since then I have to be more mindful. A weekend of crap eating results in a couple pound gain. I've had to resort back to protein/veggies only or even liquid Protein diet several times in order to knock off those gains.

Maybe she will be a rare exception, but odds are your sister's eating habits will catch up with her eventually. I probably wouldn't suggest holding her as an example for your eating habits

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
