worrywart 0 Posted January 26, 2016 My hair got extremely brittle like straw & started breaking off. Now it is falling out at the roots too and my scalp is tingling and painful scalp. My doctor does't seem concerned but I am very uncomfortable. Can someone please respond? Has anyone else had this happen?
animallover1247 249 Posted January 26, 2016 I don't know about the tingling and painful scalp but my friend who had VSG definitely had the brittleness and hair falling out. It looked very unhealthy but she was not getting her Protein in either. She had some major Hair loss. Again, she wasn't complying with the Protein requirements. James Marusek 5,244 Posted January 26, 2016 I have no experience with gastric plication. I am 32 months post-op RNY. Some individuals who had RNY gastric bypass surgery encounter hair loss. This is especially true if they do not obtain sufficient Protein. Generally as they transition into the maintenance phase, they report that the hair grows back. Since you are citing other complications such as hair brittleness, tingling and painful scalp, there may be something else at play here such as lack of Vitamins. WLSResources/ClothingExch 3,444 Posted January 26, 2016 I, too, have never heard of tingling and pain. You might consult a dermatologist as part of your explorations.
CowgirlJane 14,260 Posted January 26, 2016 When was your surgery? Do you get 60 plus Protein a day? Take Vitamins and eat healthy? You might even need more healthy fats... are you current on bloodwork? Some nutrient deficiencies can n cause serious problems... this sounds outside the " norm" to me. A New KK 104 Posted January 26, 2016 I've been doing women's rogaine and Biotin since I saw a little hair loss and the Hair loss seems less now. I'm also using nioxin Shampoo and condition a few times a week.
