I haven't experience this. Citrus fruit can be a trigger for GERD. I did an internet search and came up with this. http://www.njbariatricspc.com/weight-loss-surgery-articles/stomach-pain-after-bariatric-surgery/

I haven't had an ulcer ( knock on wood) but I am very careful with say orange juice, kiwi etc, to not eat o n an empty stomach. I can feel the burn... actually, I mostly eat berries for fruit and have no problems. I think you should have it checked...this doesn't sound like a one off thing....

It's still going and it feels like esophageal spasms. I feel like I have a burning hole in my esophagus and it keeps cramping.

Worried. My surgeon is in another town but I'll call him today for sure.

Yikes yeah I'd go see someone--a GP or walk in clinic if you don't want to go to the ER

Yikes. I'm debating going to the er. My insurance won't cover a walk in clinic. It's really hurting and I've had no relief with Zantac, tums or Prilosec. It almost feels like something is stuck in my upper chest :((

Go see someone, your health and comfort is worth it. If it's the ER so be it!

Okay so I went to the er! It was that bad. So scary. They took and exray to make sure nothing large was lodged. My bariatric surgeon is in another town so there wasn't much the er could do.

Once they made sure I wasn't choking they put me on a very strong proton inhibitor and carafate as well as a pain killer. I went home and went through one more night of the cramping but by morning it has mostly passed.

I spoke with my surgeon and he said it was most likely a small bit of food lodged in my esophagus that was causing irritation and cramping as my body tried to pass it down.

This was scary and I'm going to stay on the proton inhibitor for a while just in case.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
