Battle for the band!!!

Recommended Posts

I have been working both sides of the court on getting approval. I think that all of my years of blood problems are going to let my skip the whole diet thing. YAY ME!!! Now, all I have to do is go to the shrink and not have it turn into a Greek Tragedy. I feel like I am band-obsessed lately. I want to be one of you.

The Few, The Proud, The Banded........... :rambo

Once you make that decision to take back control of your life, it does become an obsession! That's a perfect description! Now, talk nicely to the shrink. LOL

I am not happy about having to do the psyche thing. But it is for the cause, right? I will be nice.... I just hope that I can do it once I get to the point of no return. I have not been thin in so long that I can remember what it is like. I just remember what my "friend' said the other day. ("You have a nice workout room for a fat guy..............") It is comments like that that make me want it more and more.......

you have a workout room?? lol, i wanna come to your house!

be careful with the psyche thing. lol, i've seen some folks turned away from the surgery. just be honest. i wound up actually just educating the guy on the lapband surgery and why i felt it was the most safe surgery and how i felt it was something i could actually do. he was very interested to hear of it and learn about it so he could recommend it to others. we had a great visit. some go into MMPI tests that last hours and IQ testing etc. That's overkill, I think. I was very lucky to be able to locate my own person and just have a brief visit with him - no testing, etc. just him evaluating whether he felt was capable of making this sort of life changing decision and live with it once it was done.

good luck!

Band obsession is normal, but you might want to keep that to yourself when you're talking to the shrink. Good luck -- you're almost there!

PS: Love your vegetarian quote.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
