Day 1 on the Optifast drinks - One i am lactose intolerant, I hate anything milky so this is going to definitely be a struggle !!! I tried a bar to break up the taste of the shake and the bar tasted worse! The only thing keeping me going is the fact that I know I HAVE to do this in order to get to the surgery but my taste buds sure don't like ANY of it! I told the ladies in the office that I would rather eat nothing than drink shakes but they said it wont give me the same effect.... so here I am. THIS has got to be the worst part! Granted the drink doesn't taste that awful, it's just i hate anything milky or milk like in texture. Being a big baby and pouting, I just want to go grab a Breakfast sandwich and call it a day! Whining over

I understand your dilemma with the Protein Drinks. Cannot tell you how much money I have wasted trying to find some I can stand! So what I do is this: I add stuff to mine to make them more palatable such as, a teaspoon of sugar free instant Jello cheesecake pudding mix and ice (blended); instant Decaf coffee crystals, a teaspoon of sugar free instant jello fudge pudding mix, a couple of ice cubes blended (mocha frappe!). If you can have fruit, frozen cherries or blueberries blended in tastes good. I am using the Premiere shakes but they are so thick that I cannot drink them straight! Haven't found a powder that I can stand.

the Optifast "shakes" I have are very thin, not shake like at all so yes I will have to get creative. I like the Crystal Light idea and the ice with frozen fruit

I'm with Aetna too and I think because I didn't go the traditional route I'm just on edge. So once you were approved, you got your surgery date right away?

@@Angie74 I have aetna as well and I am waiting too!! I spoke to them yesterday and they said it takes about 7-10 days

Just realized my phone allowed me to put the 36th as my surgery date ???? (Spell check needs to include a date check). It's the 26th. And I'm still nervous

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
