EP8 9 Posted January 25, 2016 (edited) I'm usually a pretty private person but I thought I'd share my experience because at one time I was searching the boards for answers. So I hope this can answer some questions or ease some minds out there. Stats: Surgery date: Jan. 22nd 2016 Dr. Altamirano, Tijuana Mexico HW: 264 SW: 225 Currently 4 days post-op You cannot compare the care and kindness you receive in Mexico to anywhere in the states. I've seen my doctor everyday since I entered the hospital. Every person on staff has been friendly. From the moment I arrived someone on staff has been with me or a call away to help with ANY need I had. I was driven to get Water, to get my mother food, we went to the mall and to a beautiful restaurant. Always with someone. I never felt like I wasn't safe. I felt like I was home(Miami). Most people speak some degree of English around here. It's really just the opposite of what I thought it'd be. Anyone who worries for safety or language barriers-you really have nothing to worry about. The hospital(Florence) was clean and the rooms looked like hotel rooms. Very nice bed for guest and very nice bathroom. Once again all staff was attentive and very caring and friendly. Never waited for anyone or anything. They cleaned the room twice a day. It was great! Dr. Altamirano was wonderful. So friendly and reassuring. He did an amazing job. And his staff was equally amazing. I was pretty nervous and they were calming me down just like a family member would. My incisions are tiny and barely noticeable. Although this part varies from person to person. I am 4 days post-op. I'm able to meet all of my Water requirements and some. No gas problems. Walking around like a champ 3 hours after surgery. No pain to speak of. Overall doing really well. Hope this helps someone. Thank you to Dr. Altamirano and his wonderful staff and Bariatricpal Team Mexico! Edited January 25, 2016 by EP8
JamieLogical 8,710 Posted January 25, 2016 Glad to hear things went so well. I've had surgery twice in Mexico and my experiences were very similar to yours. I received excellent care and attention and never worried for my safety at all, even though I traveled there alone both times. There are just a tiny handful of surgeons and a bunch of urban legends that give Mexico a bad rap when it comes to surgery, but it truly is a fantastic option for those who can't get insurance to cover surgery and can't afford self-pay in the States. In fact. for plastics, I would prefer Mexico to the States, not just for price, but for the quality of work done there.

24601 210 Posted February 5, 2016 So glad you had a good experience there! I had mine done there, and while nothing went particularly wrong, I would never recommend it to anyone.
