This topic caught my eye (even though I'm pre-op) as I've been put under at least 10 times with everything from ether to versed and being put under twice in one day for emergency gall bladder removal and a follow up surgery for a complication just recently. As I read through these replies I found myself panicking at the thought of my upcoming surgery. ????Anyway, the last thing I remember is being in a sort of holding room waiting for the OR room to open up and one of the nurses asking if she could do it. I don't know what "it" was but I was thinking don't let an inexperienced person near me! The first thing I remember afterward is being wheeled from recovery to my hospital room where my family was waiting. I have to say versed makes me nervous. It's probably unfounded but I worry that something that erases my short term memory will make me more likely to have dementia when I'm old.

Last thing I remember on Tuesday was being moved from the preop table to the operating table and seeing about 6 to 8 nurses doing all kinds of things in other parts of the room. I don't even remember having a mask or counting backwards. I was in there for 2 hours and in recovery for 3 according to my room mate.. The Nurse told me latter they had to give me 30mg of dialudid and that my lower number for my blood pressure dropped to 38. My room mate said he came into recovery but I have no recollection of that.

First thing I remember was being wheeled into my room and thinking oh no now I have to switch beds again, however that never happened. I was pretty much out of it that first night to the point that I didn't understand why I wasn't peeing. Found out Wednesday morning I was catheters. Finally got to go home Thursday. Today is the first day I feel more like my old self. Have already lost 7 pounds since Tuesday.

@@MayMarie I tried to comment on this a few moments ago, but I was laughing so hard until I think I posted it without finishing my reply. Nonetheless, we are so focused on reducing the size of our liver--and God knows we should be--until it consumes us to no end. I cried real tears after reading your post…the part about not knowing if anyone was around to hear you ask about the size of your liver pushed me right over the edge with laughter. Thanks for sharing…I needed that one.

Before going under, I remember someone telling me they were administering the anesthesia. After, I remember I was having a vivid dream and suddenly I became aware of rolling quickly down the hallway and people shouting my name. Maybe I was trying to sit up or something. When I realized where I was, I immediately asked if I was ok, if there were any complications. Thankfully the answers were you're fine and no complications.

My last thing I remember was talking to the anesthesiologist. The topic was boyfriends. I recall waking up to two voices a male and female trying to tell me that I had to take the BP med sublingually because my BP was too high and I remember saying " I'm cold I need blankets twice."than I went out again.

The last thing was when the mask came on I said to myself "here we go!"

When I woke up in the OR I asked my doctor when he was going to start the surgery. He later told mr that was the first time he heard that from a patient. He must hear a lot of crazy stuff!

My doctor stroking my arm while the anesthesiologist got me ready. And waking up thinking how nice of him and then realizing how crapy I was feeling, that was from the anesthesia and pain meds.

What's the LAST thing that you remember before going under the anesthesia and the FIRST thing that you remember waking up?

One of the OR nurses was climbing around on top of me positioning me just like they wanted and had just settle in reverse cowboy style.

on waking up, I finished the thought... hey it's gettin kinda swirly in here. Then OW.

I don't remember getting to the OR at all, or even being wheeled out of the pre-op room. Last thing I remember is a nurse on the phone getting pissy with the lab because my pregnancy test results weren't uploaded yet and everyone was waiting on me.

The first thing I remember afterwards is being wheeled into my private room, then the nurse checking my incisions and gushing how great they looked, as I wondered why I couldn't speak or even open my eyes.

Last thing I remember is arguing with one of the nurses that, no, I did not have a CPAP machine because I do not have sleep apnea, all while I had the oxygen mask on my face. She kept insisting that I must have sleep apnea. My surgeon and anesthesiologist both told her that I didn't, so she finally shut up.

The first thing I remember coming to in recovery was how empty it was. There was only one other patient there with me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
