What do you eat for breakfast?

Recommended Posts

I am trying to eat more "real" food and less Protein shakes/bars. For Breakfast I force myself to eat an egg and turkey sausage, but really hate it. Does anyone have any good Breakfast suggestions? I am trying hard to stay away from anything that is "sweet" since that tends to set me off to wanting other sweet items (ie shakes and bars).

Monday through Friday I make a microwave scrambled egg at work in a mug. It actually tastes better than the scrambled eggs in our cafeteria.

I put an egg or 2 in a large coffee mug (it needs room to expand during cooking), add a couple tablespoons of skim milk, a little salt and pepper, stir it up good, and microwave for 1 minute. I take it out and stir it up some more, add some reduced fat cheese (you don't have to do this part) and microwave for another minute and a half and it's done. Please note that each microwave is different so test it out to find what works for you. The microwave we have before needed completely different times.

I'm 2 years out and still have either oatmeal or greek yogurt for Breakfast. eggs are easy to make and digest, you can add some cheese and top with some salsa for added flavor with a limited amount of calories and fat. Also, for a change every now and then I'll have either a banana or apple with Peanut Butter. (I usually only eat about half of the fruit and a tablespoon of Peanut Butter.< /p>

Well, if you are not liking the eggs and don't want sweet, keep in mind that you don't have to have "breakfast food" at breakfast time. Try cottage cheese, refried Beans, ham and cheese roll up, nuts and cheese, leftover dinner meat, chili, etc.

Turkey bacon, sausage, cheese cubes, ham or turkey cubes, tuna salad with multigrain flax crackers, yogurt....nuts(if you can tolerate them). I don't usually have breakfast as such because my pouch can't tolerate food that early in the morning, so I grab a shake and then at lunch, I'll have something from the list above and at dinner, I try to eat what the rest of the family is having, but if it's something that won't work for me because of carbs, fat, grease, or texture, then I usually keep Peanut Butter or cheese on hand and have that instead.

@@Sajijoma I've heard other people say "if you can tolerate them" when referring to nuts. What happens if you can't tolerate them? What does that mean or feel like?

Totally understand about your desire to get away from the Protein shakes/bars, but I'm the total opposite. It's crazy, because I'll get up and make my kids eggs and bacon, but I have a very difficult time consuming anything like that anymore since surgery. I have three breakfast staples I choose from on almost a daily basis: Greek yogurt w/ a scoop of quality protein powder and either flax or chia seeds!; a Quest Protein Bar if I need something more solid and two three times a week I add a Protein Shake as a late breakfast kicker to help load up on my protein goal for the day. Once a week I add a fruit and protein smoothie to the mix. I may eat a small serving of oatmeal or high Fiber Cereal occasionally, but I'm always cautious about the sugar and carbohydrates associated with those last two. Like many have said in this topic, experiment with what makes you feel good about eating breakfast and as long as it keeps you on track for you WL goals you will be fine.

Oscar Meyer has Protein packs. Combo of Turkey, chicken or ham. Then it has Cheddar or Colby cheese cubes and the center of the pack is nuts (almonds or peanuts). It is about 160 calories and 12-13 grams of Protein. Many stores carry them.

What's P3?

P3 is powdered Peanut Butter. It has a whole lot less fat than regular peanut butter. You can add it to a chocolate Protein Shake for yum if you like that combination. Or I just add Water to it, make a smooth paste and eat it on a few peeled apple slices. It doesn't taste like real peanut butter, but it tastes very peanutty and is a nice Protein switch once in a while. Sometimes I will eat it by itself, I think it would be good on celery too if you want to keep carbs low. I think real peanut butter would cause me to dump, but this does not. They have it at my grocery store on the aisle with health food and protein bars/shakes. You can also order from Amazon. Oh, they have a peanut and a peanut/chocolate flavor.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
