Does anyone else feel the things they swallow go through the stomach?

Recommended Posts

I'm still on liquid diet. I have been taking my meds crushed with sugar free pudding. There are times , even with my shakes and Water that I feel that I can feel it going through. Some of it causes me pain. My next part is a soft diet. I will be 2 weeks out Thursday. I tried a bit of scrambled egg today, just because after 4 weeks of liquids (pre diet included) I wanted something a bit more food like. Now even though I chewed it well I felt it. It hurt. Now it feels like it is sitting in there. I'm regretting the bite!! Don't do it!!! I'm 20lbs down now from the beginning of the month. 10 lbs down before. 10 lbs down since surgery 1.5 weeks ago. My twin sons told me today I'm looking skinner. Can't screw this up!

At first I could feel almost everything. Dr & NUT both said it was due to inflammation in the beginning. It did go away, mostly. Almost 9 months out now & I can feel cold (like ice cold) beverages as they go down, but that is about it. I still get really good restriction & can't eat big bites, but doesn't hurt & doesn't bother me anymore.

I have been able to take all my meds whole, with no issues.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
