19 days post op , frustrated

Recommended Posts

I am 19 days since surgery , I still don't feel good , my lower abdominal hurts and I'm only getting half my fluids in , and half protien if that . I have no energy and feel almost like I'm recovering from the flu . I asked Doctor and he said that its common to have some pain and a slow down the first month, I'm down from 294 to 264 , I'm glad but I could really care less cause I don't feel good , already had a IV once . Don't want to bother them again . I do take a hydro for pain which helps and I did poop today . Any help out there . Kind of worried

Talk to your doctor. By Day 19 you should have long been over any pain from the surgery. Don't put it off because it might be a leak, especially if you are running a fever.

I agree that you need to talk to your doctor.

Also, you really need to be getting in ALL of your Protein and fluids by now. Not getting enough of either is probably a major contributor for how bad you are feeling. You need both to heal.

I'm on day 16, Water and Protein are my best friend, but I am exhausted and need to make sure I take it easy. I still have some shoulder pain in my left arm and feel pains in my abdomen but not to a point I need more than a Tylenol. I hope you call you dr

I wasn't feeling well.... Severe body and joint aches at night that would wake me up one with a bit of a temp. I called the doctor and they had me go to the hospital and have a CT scan with the iodine that they run through the IV. They didn't find a leak, but rather I have a blood clot in my stomach. You may want to call your doctor in the am and get on top of it. If your insurance didn't cover the surgery, they can bill your surgery for just abdominal pain and leave it at that. Good luck!

That sucks but sounds so much better than a leak!

In answer to your question "how would I know if I have a leak?" - You wouldn't. That isn't something you can self-diagnose. That's why the number one answer in ALL cases where you are worried, the answer is always "call your doctor". Day or night. Weekday or weekend. No foolin'. Any advice you find on the internet, no matter how well meaning or well informed is no substitute for a conversation with your doctor.

Sorry to hear about the gall bladder!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
