What are you looking forward to?

Recommended Posts

When things are rough, and we have bad days, I want to have reminders of what I am working for. This is a shallow thing but I bought myself a cute outfit in my goal size today. Had my surgery monday, and I know it will be a long time until I fit in it, but I am sure before long I will be able to put it on and say, "I did it" and (holy s#!t, I can't believe I can wear this)

I know the pounds will go away and there will be many other non scale victories that will happen along the way. What things are getting you through the hard days?

I bought some PJs around Christmas in the biggest size they had and that is my first goal. They are Wonder Woman with a cape!! They are a size 16. I have not been in a 16 since I was a freshman in Highschool.

Most immaediately, I'm looking forward to the end of the pre-op required testing phase of this journey. Second appointment with my surgeon is on Tuesday.

Postop, I'm looking forward to wearing a white shirt or tee without feeling like a headlamp!

I am looking forward to the day I can take a picture and not crop my body out before I post it on social media. ???? For the past five years I've only posted head shots of myself.

Oh man, so many things....

  • wearing riding boots. I carry most of my weight in my legs and have never found boots that will zip. I cannot wait to wear a pair!
  • wearing skinny jeans - see above. I've never found a pair that looked good or fit me right.
  • getting outside with my kids this summer and running, hiking, doing gymnastics. My daughter is a gymnast and i can still manage cartwheels and handstands. So fun :)
  • Being able to wear tank tops and possibly shorts without feeling horrible?! I know I will have loose skin, but I will take it.
  • Going zip lining. I've always exceeded the weight limit, lol.

I have been to heavy to horse back ride - literally too heavy for the horses ????. It's something I want to do with my kids.

Also bike riding with my family. Going skiing ( though I'm terrible at it - heavy or not ????)

Not being tired all the time. A few days after I started the liver shrinking diet I'm not half as tired already so I've got that one started already! ????

Fitting into the airplane seats more comfortably.

Looking forward to being so much healthier but most of all to see the look on my ex husbands face who left me for a thinner woman!

I'm looking forward to feeling normal size around my friends, for my husband to be able to pick me up with ease, and to stop feeling embarrassed about myself.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
