Blood Sugar too high!

Recommended Posts

Hubby's blood sugar is too high and the Doctor wants it lowered before continuing. He's a little bummed out. He was looking forward to a go ahead for surgery.

One way to reduce blood sugar is to limit the amount of carbs especially sugars. Today there are a wide variety of products available to help one do this.

I had sugar diabetes prior to surgery. I am 32 months post-op RNY gastric bypass. My diabetes went into remission when I left the hospital 2 days after surgery and have remained in remission. I have been off my diabetes meds ever since. I use natural no calorie sweeteners such as stevia and artificial sweeteners such as Splenda. I read the labels of almost everything I consume and if it contains more than 5 grams of sugar, I do not eat it. There are many products that are "No Sugar Added" such as hot chocolate which work fine. Also drinks like Crystal Light work good.

So one of the easiest ways to lower blood sugar in order to qualify for surgery is to limit sugar and high calorie natural sweeteners for example high-fructose corn Syrup, honey, agave etc.

I am currently in this boat. I was asked to recheck my A1C in 8-12 weeks (from beginning of January) here we are 4 weeks later and I haven't done much if anything. I went out and bought all the good foods for my diabetic eating plan, but have no motivation and or always unfocused. I know I have roughly 8 weeks left...just really need to get my head in the game, but I felt that way too when I got the news.

His GP thought it was a little strange that the other Doctor insisted that he get his A1c down to 9 to be eligible for surgery. His last A1C was 9.6. Pretty sure surgery will eliminate the diabetes anyways...

We've eliminated all sugars and the numbers aren't moving very fast. He's taking insulin 4 times a day, plus an extra pill, along with some exercise on the bike.

Going back to the Doc in a few days...

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
