Hi everyone! I started my journey in the beginning of November when I had my initial consultation with my suegeon. About 2 weeks later I had my first visit with my nutritionist. It was right before my period was supposed to start and I had gained 5 pounds between the visit with my surgeon and the nutritionist. I have Aetna and I'm doing the 3 month program they offer. In their guidelines, it says I can't have a net gain during the program. Does this mean I will be denied since I gained in the very beginning?? Or do they look at the weight the first weigh in and the last after I complete the program and it can't be a gain between those two?

I'm so nervous that I'm doing all of this work and all of these visits and I'm going to be denied from the very beginning.

Thanks for your help everyone!

You can't have a net gain, so that would mean you can weigh more than you did in your initial weigh in after the three months are done. If you started in November, then by February you need to be the same or less weight. (I'm guessing based on what you wrote)

How has your eating been? Are you keeping carbs low, not drinking calories??

I never bought into the period weight gain thing. Sure my weight fluctuates, but I've never seen that fluctuation around my period.

Thank you for your reply. That's how I was reading it, but I wanted to make sure someone else thought the same thing as me.

I have been watching what I eat. I'm focusing on the Protein, limiting carbs, drinking only Water (at least a gallon a day) and watching my sugar in take since I know after surgery I won't be able to eat much of that. I know the weekends are my downfall and I've been working on that too. I've been exercising based on what my exercise therapist has me doing.

I'm back to the weight I was when I weighed in with my surgeon, but I can't seem to get lower than that despite my efforts. Right around my period I gain about 3-5 lbs every month from retaining so much Water. A couple of days after I'm able to lose it again. I have anot her appointment with my nutritionist and exercise specialist this week so I'm going to ask them what I can change. It's frustrating with insurance because this is the reason why I need the surgery because I can't lose the weight on my own after attempts with all different approaches.

.....so I'm going to ask them what I can change.

This is the best thing you can do. Keep up the line of communication with your nutritionist and surgical team.

Thank you! It's so hard. I feel my clothes getting a little loser, people are noticing I'm looking a little thinner and I feel better. I'm just so nervous that I don't see the scale going down and that's what my insurance company wants. I'll see what the nutritionist says Tuesday.

It is very hard!! I agree with you 100% !! I have been on the other end of the waiting period; waiting to hear from ins, from Dr's to give me clearance for surgery, trying to be faithful and follow the mindful eating programs.....don't get discouraged. Keep on working even when it seems your "stuck". Your doing the best and right thing by seeing your nut. I'm sending you a big smile and lots of "You Can Do It!!!!" ????

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
