Hi all. I had surgery 1/4/16 thought I was doing well but it was difficult getting fluids in so the kept me 4 nights then sent me home with full liquids. 3 days later I could feel it gurgling in my throat, nausea and vomiting. Went to ER at Md instruction. Cat scan showed intestinal swelling. I know swelling is part of the process of healing but I spent another week in the hospital with IV total per enteral nutrition. So now I have been home 3 days still on the IV stuff now I'm to start sipping liquids again on a trial basis in hopes my intestines have opened up. The upper GI test showed a definite narrowing between the intestine connection point at the jejunum And possibly the connection was sewed to small per the doctor. Has anyone else experienced similar things? The doctor seems to think it may reopen on its own. I'm so worried it's driving me crazy because my insurance isn't even covering the IV nutrition

I am so sorry that you are having complications! I really hope that things start working out for you soon.

How and the heck does insurance not cover your nutrition IVs. Wow, that is just nuts.

Hugs....

I haven't had a blockage but I know it's common. I've had the beginnings of ulcers, which caused hard core dry heaving and vomiting. This was miserable enough, I can't imagine how difficult a time you've had.

I wish I could give you some great advice or lessons learned to help. Does your hospital or surgeon facilitate a local support group? If so, that might be a great resource for you. Mine has been invaluable for me. Just talking to others who can relate to what you're dealing with and how you're feeling helps so much.

I had surgery Jan 13. Was set to go home on the 15th, but couldn't hold anything down after day 2. My doc ordered a CT scan on the 20th and found a laproscopic hernia. With all the vomiting, I had pulled in the small intestine at the jejunum junction and caused a block. Doc immediately went back in and corrected it. No more vomiting.

I know you must be miserable. I hope yours fixes itself soon.

How are things going for you? I hope you are feeling better and that you're getting some relief.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
