Here I Go....I need Help

Recommended Posts

This is been a decision that I have not taken lightly I have thought about it for over three years. I have finally decided that enough was enough and I have gone through the process of getting approved for the surgery I have been approved in them having my surgery February 1. I am so excited and scared at the same time I'm excited that I could have a new life That I can walk into a store and try on clothes not in the fat section. I am scared that I will fail as I have failed any other diet I ever tried. I am 53 years old and I need to lose 110 pounds. I think this site is fantastic and I look forward to giving support to others as well as receiving the support I need to succeed in this journey. I would love to hear from other people how much weight they have lost since having their gastric sleeve procedure. Thanks.

You know I think everyone has felt happy and scared at the same time with getting the sleeve and I can honestly tell you the only way you can fail is if you eat 25/7 to make up for the lost of your other half of your stomach. I can also tell you that with my stomach half gone it seems like there is a switch that got turned off and food is no longer a main thing for me. You will conquer this like you have for every thing that has ever gotten in your way. Take the February 1 date in stride you got this

I had the sleeve on 12/28 and I feel fantastic. I've lost 22 pounds since the surgery (i have 71 total to lose). Your body will definitely tell you what you can and cannot eat. I'm on the pureed foods now and anything remotely not pureed, my body tells me to stop. I agree, a switch turns on where eating becomes something you have to do rather than want to.

It's silly to say not to be scared. I sure was too. And there are frustrating moments. But I promise you, you will see results. Use this tool like its intended and you will see results. You will amaze yourself at what you can accomplish. And you will have a new life! :) Best to you. Please let us know how you are doing!

Welcome! You are right that this site is fantastic! It has been invaluable to me throughout my entire journey, both pre and post-op. So much great info, so much support, and so much tough love when you need it!

Your life will be forever changed with this surgery, but in mostly good ways. There will be challenges and struggles, but it will be worth it in the end.

Welcome.

I certainly remember that mix of fear and hopeful anticipation before surgery.

This is a great site for information, inspiration, encouragement, support, and even a few laughs.

Best of luck with your surgery and keep us posted on your progress.

I was on my pre-op journey for almost 9 months and had lost close to 70 pounds by then. I remember asking the group if I really needed the surgery. I decided I had a much better chance of keep the weight off long term with the sleeve.

Has my life changed?...actually... not too much. I did the pre-op diet for 9 months so I was pretty used to eating the way I am eating now (except now I have slight pressure which tells me I have eaten enough.) I am one of the very fortunate ones who does not get upset with any foods (that being said- I do not eat refined carbs....so I'm not sure if these upset me or not.) I don't have reflux, I don't get constipated. Overall I feel fantastic. Since I lost a lot of weight pre-surgery- I did not lose the huge amounts that some folks do. Basically I'm losing about the same amount I did when I was doing the pre-op diet. Slow and steady...and it all adds up.

I still get hungry (I know some say they don't) but I just now know what I need to feed my body. I am so thankful for this forum! I was scared before surgery but the day of surgery I felt confident and comfortable in all the prep I had done beforehand. Since you have been contemplating this for 3 years I am sure you are well prepared and will do great. I think my most exciting moment was when I woke up in recovery and realized that it was done! What a wonderful moment. Good Luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
