Food allergies

Recommended Posts

I am almost through my first week of pre-op 6 months supervised diet. For me the dr calls it a sandwich diet. One week high Protein /low carb and two weeks clear liquid alternating.

I found unflavored hemp Protein to try but was wondering if anyone else has food allergies? I am allergic to caseins in dairy and eggs. Many protein drinks have egg albumin and of course whey is out.

So many high protein suggestions are hard boiled eggs , yogurt , cottage cheese but I can't eat any of it.

I feel like this is going to be a bigger challenge for me .

I know what you are going through. I am allergic to anything SOY and all legumes (beans/peas, etc.) I had to research, research, research. The internet is a great resource. Also, I would ask your nutritionist for help. Let people know in your surgeon's office. They could make it a challenge to see who can find you a suitable replacement first. Of course with all of the folks on this site, it would not surprise me if somebody out there will have exactly what you need.

Good luck. Be healthy and keep in touch. I care...

Valentina

Baked Beans are a fantastic, inexpensive source of Protein.

Just make sure you get ones that are not laced up with SUGARS like most US ones.

Ones from Italy are usually very good & lowest in carbohydrates [on the nutritional label.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
