8 days post-op, no weight loss and I can eat without pain

Recommended Posts

Eating solid foods early can actually do something to your system if you eat them early, when later on when you can eat anything, you might not be as to tolerate it anymore. Just advice, keep following by the diets all the way through

Even if you can handle it.

Absolutely. My hospital starts the puréed diet at 11 days. All my foods are puréed or according to the guidelines of what I am able to have and that's only one meal a day, the rest are liquids. So not based on my toleration I went through everything with the nutritionist what I'm having etc. Including Protein Shakes and puréed Soups and apparently fine. Just different methods, some people do start puréed foods after a week though so just going off my program. I am on this for 3 1/2 weeks then soft foods.

So in total you do 4 weeks? That's seems far more bearable, in total I'm doing 3 months of post op dieting but loving the energy so it's all good.

Mine is a 3 month diet as well. 4 weeks is definitely more bearable! I'm 13 days post op today and this morning I heard my stomach growl! But I still wasn't hungry! As I mentioned before, my tolerance for soft foods is very good. So, i started chewing on more soft foods (crab meat, yogurts, sweet potatoes etc). I have lost about 5lbs post surgery but I've lost a very noticeable amount of inches in my waist and my upper body area. My face has really thinned out as well. I'm not really stressing about the number-it will go down with time. I just want to be healthy and not malnourished in the long run. It's hard to even remember to eat! And I'm still struggling with getting all of my fluids in. It's a work in progress! I feel great though!

Yes stomach noises!!! My NUT said the stomach noises mean our stomachs are cleaning themselves and I don't think I've actually had real hunger, more mental, no growling due to hunger only cleaning! Yes the number does not matter! Physically I have changed drastically! Jeans are getting looser, roundness in my face too has gone down. I think being scale obsessed will hurt more and I did read that one, your body can be changing the fat into muscle with all the Protein and two, tightening and toning up; either way there is loss in inches, dress sizes and FAT! Definitely feel great too!

I am like you.I don't believe in weighing myself obsessively.I know I am losing ...it shows in my face etc...but for me to obsess over every pound is not cool for me.It will discourage me.

Exactly! Weighing yourself everyday sometimes is just a stretch. You just know it's working because of the changes in the amount you're eating.

In my first 10 days after RNY I had gained 10lbs! And that is on calories only from Protein Shakes (approx 300 cal per day) BUT I wasn't getting enough Water so I was retaining water like crazy. In the beginning I also sort of felt like maybe they didn't really do the bypass. I couldn't get all of that water down though, but when I started transitioning to purees I felt like i could keep eating and eating if I wanted to (luckily I didn't try it) and now that I've been getting some texture I really really feel it. I feel it so much that it's hard to believe how little I'm actually eating and feeling full. Everyone is different in the beginning, but these strange things happen to everyone. My surgeon also had me try to start purees in the first week home. Full liquids and loose purees for 7 days. Every program is different too. Congratulations on your surgery & hope you're feeling great now!

So, I left the hospital on a Friday, was off pain meds by Saturday, and went to work on Monday. I started the puree for a few days and then moved to very small pieces of food. I am now 17 days out and 20 pounds down. Now, I am at a stall for weight but inches are melting like crazy. I walk about 1 1/2 miles a day, only eat Protein and veggies/fruit, and measure ALL my food. I have 1 Protein Shake a day too. Except for the hospital, I have had no problems with food. I have to obsessively measure my food because I could eat more. I was advised to follow the measurements strictly. My point being,....we are all different. The diet and exercise recommendations along with consistently is the key. I am very happy I am doing so well. I stopped focusing on weight and more on how I feel. It isn't immediate. Keep that in mind. Stay on the path - you can do this!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
