Day 4 of preop diet..major headache

Recommended Posts

So I've had a bad headache since late Tuesday night. Preop diet started Monday. Is this something that happens or should I be worried? If it does happen, how long will I be like this? It's miserable.

Were you a caffeine drinker? It could be a caffeine withdraw.

you tend to feel better after a few days in, your body is adjusting.

I drank some caffeine. coffee mostly on work days only. Not much pop. Maybe one serving a day. Hopefully this is what it is and it goes away soon. I have 10 days to go on liquids. Im pushing through but the main thing that's bothering me is the headache ????

I had 2-3 days of a headache.

Luckily I can have 6 oz of meat and 2 cups of non starchy vegetables between shakes. This keeps me from going insane.

I'm always hungry in the afternoon, nighttime and morning I can handle it. I am struggling with coffee. But sugar and starch getting burned up in your body, withdrawing from that, will give you headaches. So, do NOT have any sugar or starch - carbs, after this headache is gone, you don't want to go through that again.

You're on your way, that's why you're suffering. I think. =)

Increase Water & salt. Try drinking a little bouillon or adding it to other broths you are drinking.

You should look up ketosis. One of the VERY common symptoms of transferring into ketosis is a headache. It is 100% normal.

Thank you all so much!

Right now I'm so groggy and sleepy and feel like my head is gonna pop off.

I am not allowed to have any meats or veggies. Only Protein shakes, broth, sugar free Jello, sugar free pudding, Greek yogurt

Sounds like my pre-op diet. It was a true liquid diet and it was NO FUN. I was like "don't these people know I still have 100% of my stomach?!?!"

Mine was very similar to this. What Protein Shakes are you drinking?

I was very tired for a few days but it does get better (I'm 1 week post op)

You can add Crystal light to your drinks (I know it doesn't make that much of a difference) but I had the strawberry sorbet Protein, I added lemonade Crystal light. It was pretty good. It gives you Some kind of variety.

Good luck

I'm drinking the pre made Premier Protein drinks.

My head isn't so bad today. It comes and goes, unlike the last 2 days where it's has been a constant pounding feeling.

Now I'm having trouble with my legs cramping up. I can deal with the cramps. I'm just glad my head is feeling better.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
