I'm one week post op today and I've been having night sweats since I came home. It's single digits here and I'm sleeping in a Cami and shorts. I don't have a fever or any other signs of infection, so I'm assuming it's because the surgery has my hormones out of whack. Did anyone else have night sweats? If so, how long did they last?

I assume this is a new phenomenon? I had them when I was heavier mainly due to sleep apnea. It is not a typical post surgery complaint. Hormone dump is a probability, or it could be one of those woman change things that happens around menopause.

This is the mayo Clinics advice on night sweats:

Schedule a doctor's visit if night sweats:

  • Occur on a regular basis
  • Interrupt your sleep
  • Are accompanied by a fever or other symptoms

Thanks, I do have sleep apnea and have been lax in using my CPap since surgery since it's been difficult to find a comfortable sleep position. I'll make sure to wear my mask tonight and see if it happens again.

For some, in the first week night sweats happen due to the anesthesia and pain medication leaving your system. Or, if you are still using pain meds it can happen from that as well. If you get a fever or other symptoms be sure to check with your surgeon. Congrats on starting your journey!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
