cal2okl 37 Posted January 21, 2016 I use to drink almost a gallon of Water a day but now it's hard for me to down it and especially quickly, if I do it gets stuck in my chest wall or something lol. But seriously this is annoying and does it ever get easier to drink continuously. I'm four months out by the way and wine seems to go down smoother.
OutsideMatchInside 10,166 Posted January 21, 2016 (edited) It gets easier every month. I am 6 months out. I can't chug 16oz in one breathe like I used to be able to but I can drink 8oz of Water in probably 5-10 minutes now. If I sip continuously I can drink forver. The key I think is the water temp which varies by person. For me I can drink room temp water easily and quickly, ice water, not so much. The same with hot tea, I can drink hot tea very fast, downing 8 oz in 5 or 10 minutes. Edited January 21, 2016 by OutsideMatchInside
JamieLogical 8,713 Posted January 21, 2016 Have you experimented with different temperatures of Water? I can chug ice water, but anything that doesn't have ice in it sits like lead in my chest.
Slim-Shady 79 Posted January 22, 2016 At 6 months post-op, it's hard for me to get liquids in be it fast or slow. I use a straw, and that helps tremendously! Hope this helps you. Good luck!
jhclikesshopping@gmail.com 285 Posted January 22, 2016 Mom is a little bit different. I can drink fast if Water has a flavor to it. Like there's a lime in it or a lemon in it. But as long as it's plain water just plain water :cold, warm, whatever, that's sucker will not go down.
cal2okl 37 Posted January 26, 2016 At one stage did you all start using straws again?
axlr8n 161 Posted January 26, 2016 I started using a straw occasionally at around 4 months, but you have to be careful because you can suck in air and that really hurts. I agree with the temperature of the liquid making a big difference.
WannabeH 114 Posted January 26, 2016 There is a chemical reason for it. My Dr explained our body metabolises Water differently after surgery. I prided myself on the fact I was a big Water drinker before surgery but it just didn't quench my thirst after surgery. As per my Dr's suggestion I now put a little diet cordial into my water and it's made the world of difference; it now feels silky.
Cutepretty1 121 Posted January 27, 2016 I drink Fiji or Voss Water because of the silky smooth texture. No two waters are alike.
