Any problems with Salad?

Recommended Posts

I'm about 11 weeks out, almost three months. I'm trying to incorporate salad into my diet because I've been craving it, but each of the three times I've tried a salad (and chopped at that), it has sent me to the bathroom within two hours with a lot of undigested greens. My salad is usually spinach, grilled chicken, chick peas, egg whites, roasted peppers, and carrots with balsamic vinegar. Do I need to wait a little longer to try salad? Any suggestion will be appreciated.

I'm 8 months out and I eat it all the time. I really love Subway's salads with the chipotle dressing. It could just be too soon for you.

My Dr. doesn't allow salads until 6 months +, so I think it is just too soon for you.

Hi there. I am at 10 months out and I still cannot eat lettuceS. I eat all the yummy parts of the salad just not the lettuce because I have the exact same problem you talked about. I'm OK with that.

My problem with salad is that it fills me up really fast (the actual greens), so I don't get enough of Protein and I end up hungry again soon after I eat. I rarely make salads at home for that reason, and when I order one, I just eat the protein off it. I like salads, but they don't make sense for me at this point. I'm coming up on 5 months post op.

6 mo post op and can eat salads just fine. I find that I can fill up quickly on lettuce and such, so I need to make sure I get Protein in first. At least I'm getting in fruits and veggies (peppers, onions, peas, olives, mushrooms, cucumbers, etc), cheese, and Proteins (chicken and egg) with it.

I'm at 9 months, and I steer clear of the salads. There just is no room for it after the Protein, and I just don't seem to be able to chew salad greens small enough. It takes very little salad to fill me up because I just can't chew it enough.

I am 2 months post op and tried one last night for the first time with some sliced cheese stick on top. It didn't bother me a bit, but nothing seems to except drinking milk. I have really missed eating salads!

I'm so glad it's not just me! Mine came back up in about 15 mins though.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
