Low BMI slow losing encouragement welcome!

I'm low BMI and just Monday had my three-month surgiversay and I've only lost 30 pounds. I'm thrilled with it but after so many stalls hoping I'm not frittering away my honeymoon period by not being super strict.

Just wanted to see if I'm on track with other low BMI people. I know not to compare (when I see 60 lbs off in 3 months!!!) so would just like to hear from other low BMI October people if possible.

I am 3.5 months out and have lost 38 pounds.

HW 246

SW 224

CW 186. 5'8"

I not only stall but go up and down with my weight. I have not had a consistent weight loss since surgery. This past week I had a 4 pound gain. Which I know is not possible because I eat 900-1100 calories daily and run 3-4 miles daily and strength train 2-3 days a week.

I only weigh myself once a week because I feel so discouraged.

But I know to stay positive because I have gone from a women's 20 to a size 14.

As of this week it's been five months since my surgery, and I've lost just under 50 pounds. I've gone from squeezing into a size 14 to comfortably wearing an 8 or a 10, so I am pleased though I'd definitely still like to lose some more. My weight loss has been comparatively slow and not very steady. I was twice sick for around three weeks, and believe that contributed to my weight loss halting for those time periods. As many on here have written, the seeming paradox of not eating enough calories leading to a stall or slower weight loss has been very true for me. I lost no weight when I was sick, despite only being able to take in under 600 calories or thereabouts. Even when I was feeling healthy, MyFitnessPal informed me every day that I wasn't consuming enough calories for healthy weight loss. By the holidays my appetite had become more robust, though still unquestionably restricted, and I also wasn't being as diligent about what I was eating. I actually lost five pounds, even with daily frozen yogurt treats I enjoyed with visiting relatives (always a small size, but nevertheless), and other little indulges. I haven't gained those pounds back.

This month I've tried to be more mindful about getting in more calories, but healthier ones, because I see more progress on the scale when I've gotten at least 1000. My weight has fluctuated, with a couple more pounds being lost and then being gained again. I have PCOS and this has been the pattern for me for years, though it was far more dramatic than just a couple of pounds. I haven't exercised as much as I'd resolved to yet, so that's something I'm definitely going to try to work on.

I was sleeved on 9.30.15 and have lost 41 lbs so far. I saw my nutritionist last week and expressed to her that I felt I was losing slowly. She reassured me that I started at a lower BMI so weight loss will probably be slower for me than for someone who has a lot more weight to lose. She wants me to have a goal of 1-2 lbs lost per week, which seems realistic. There are a lot of great posts on here about slow losing, stalls, etc. I can't remember who said it but one lady said it's important to remember that weight loss is not always a linear process. Sometimes you'll stall. Sometimes you'll gain. It's usually not the result of bad choices on your part, but the result of your body adjusting. Just follow your plan and trust the process and overall you'll see a loss. If you're doing everything right then just be patient. If you think you're losing slowly because you're not eating enough, eating too much, not getting Protein, etc. then maybe go visit your nutritionist to get back on track. Hang in there and be proud of how far you've come already!

My starting BMI was 40, so probably higher than yours. I lost 17 pounds the first 3 months and I was thrilled because I LOST 17 POUNDS! This is not a race or a competitive sport. You're sabotaging your ability to enjoy this wonderful journey by letting numbers and unrealistic expectations get in your way. This is for the rest of your life and the rate at which you lose has zero to do with your long term success.

I had a high BMI and lost (am losing) at a rate of 10 pounds or less per month. 10 pounds per month is not slow; however, I suspect "not bring super strict" is adding to the situation. Also realize that you have lost 40 pounds DURING the holidays. Have you ever been able to lose any weight during the holidays? Be proud of yourself. Rejoice in your loss and don't derail yourself by "not being super strict". This is a new lifestyle not a temporary diet.

I think you have done great! I have lost 35 pounds since surgery on 10/1/15. I lost 10 of those in the first week since my surgeon did not require a pre-op diet. I am super pleased with the results so far.

My surgeon didn't require pre diet either but I kind of wish I had done one anyway - had I known how slow going this is.

It is pretty amazing how this works. I do believe I can keep it off this time.

About another 20 lbs and I'll be feeling good.

I'm so happy that I found this thread. I was sleeved on 10/26/15. SW 231, CW 193. I'm 5'8". I feel like I should have lost more but have bigger issues in that I have hardly any restriction. I can eat way more than I should be able to. I've put on 3lbs in the last week. It's a constant struggle. My surgeon says the opening to my stomach probably has less sensitivity than other people experience and that I am in the minority.

This is a good thread, I too forget I was on the lower bmi end at 36. I see others loosing 100 plus pounds in 5 months and i keep saying WT#...

I workout and treadmill 5 days a week and because of their high losses I temporarily lose focus.

You all have put me back in the correct perspective...

I'm happy to see this post, too. My surgeon told me that I'll "stall"... and that's exactly what is happening. I get discouraged and tend to lose focus, but when it's time to eat something, I keep having to tell myself that this decision was for LIFE. I'm doing my best to think of food as fuel, I will eventually get there. I'm just glad that there is a forum for all of us here.

Hang in there, you are not alone. I know it will get better for you!

I started with a BMI at about 40. Just less than 5'3 and 225 lbs. I lost about 30 pre-surgery and since my 10-7-2015 surgery I have lost 25 lbs. It is slow going. I am not the perfect patient. I track my food intake on MFP. I walk daily, usually 30 minutes and make decent food choices. It could be better. I now average about 2-5 lbs a month post surgery, pre surgery it was 10 lbs a month. I have lost inches too. I am about to hit the 160's and want to lose about 30 more lbs or so.

You are not alone.

Well guys, this thread is so comforting for me to read. I started off with a BMI of 35.9 W203lbs on my surgery date of 21Oct '15 and am now at 30.1 BMI W169lbs. So that means I've lost 34lbs of useless flab in 13 weeks. Slow and steady is suiting me although fast and furious would be pretty good for a change! I have more or less stalled but am doing everything more or less as I should be. If I stop and really think about how far I've come since I was sleeved I should be patting myself on the back. I feel fitter than I have for years, my clothes are getting looser by the day and I'm already thinking ahead to when I start to chuck out stuff that gets too baggy. I'm not buying anything as my weight goes down as I've got all the clothes that I collected on the way up over the past 10 years (yep, I hoard). That means I've got loads to wear. Granted, I might not look like something out of the latest edition of Vogue. When I get to goal I am going to have soooo much fun shopping for beautiful, well fitting clothes instead of the tents that have been my standard uniform for the last few years. I want to get rid of another 30lbs so apart from walking the dogs every day I'm about to start swimming again.

      Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
      What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
