Did you keep your surgery a secret?

Recommended Posts

My husband and I were sleeved together. He is very private, I tell the world. He convinced me it is his business therefore even his son doesn't know. Frankly I am thankful, because I don't want to talk about it anyway. Life is good.

Deciding to have the surgery was a tough decision to make. I just own it. I've told my siblings, friends, boss, co-workers my plans and why I am working so hard to lose weight pre-op. Most of them have been encouraging about it, only a couple of people (including one brother) have tried to talk me out of it. I told the naysayers that it was my decision to make, I researched it before making the decision, and I am sticking to it. This is your life, live it!

Just my immediate family. At work I left it at double hernia surgery. Losing weight due to liquid diet due to hernia repair. lol.

This was a big decision for me and it took me a very long time to make peace with it. Along the way, I spoke with my aunt, my best friend who also happens to be my coworker, and my sister. Those three people encouraged and listened to me. My immediate family and beat friends know. Also, I work in a very small business in tight quarters and my coworkers have become like family. So, very few people know and I intend to keep it that way.

For those who ask, I am eating less and exercising more.... Which are both very true.

Good luck!

I have kept this a secret to my close friends and my immediate family. I've told my BF at work and she's been extremely supportive, I've recently started a Pre-Pre-Op diet on my own and she's joined me through this process. My hubby is extremely supportive and my kids as well. I'm very open person but this has kept my mouth shut. Maybe after some time I will open up, till then my mouth is closed.

I have not posted anything on Facebook. But I do have a private group on face book that I invited important people in my journey to follow updates and pic. That being said tho when people ask I am extremely open about it. I work at a doctor's office so some patients you don't see people for months. When they come in they are shocked. some don't even recognize me. If i could help someone by educating them or helping them make a decision I am happy =). Everyone is different do what is comfortable for you.

P.s. I had surgery Oct 2016. Best decision ever

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
