Why is my bypass so different I can have taco shells, well tortilla chips and salsa. it's in my diet. I'm 7weeks out I just have trouble with meats though if I can't stomach tacos I can't eat meat period I don't like chicken, fish,or pork I'm damn near a vegetarian.

I feel the same way..i cant eat any meat as of right now..i got alot of vegetarian food like veggie patties and Chik patties and my stomach tolerates it 100%..soo i think I've came to a horrid conclusion that for now...i have to be a Vegetarian ????

I found experimentation to be the best thing. An egg mixes well with tuna and makes a nice patty with a little olive oil. Sprinkle some salt on it and u have a crispy tuna patty - tons of Protein too.

Maybe some crab meat? Shrimp sautéed in a little butter and seasoned well? Salmon patties? chicken salad?

It's not the meat that won't sit well, it's the DRY meat.

Add some moisture with butter, gravy, etc. make it more medium than well done.

The point behind no corn or enriched flower the first couple months in the more successful programs is because our bodies NEED protein and theirs ZERO need for enriched flour and corn. Some of these programs around are nothing more than herding fat people thru a turnstile and knowing they will be back for revisions. Do some research. Don't eat enriched flour or corn. Don't drink alcohol, etc etc.

Make smart decisions.

I had gastric bypass last October and am still struggling with eating meat. I'm getting very frustrated. I'm going to make some turkey chili using ground turkey, Beans, chicken broth and canned tomatoes. Last time I tried this it was rough as heck. This time I'm going to blend the chili before I add the beans and see if that works. I can't stand fish. Tried to eat some tuna last week and promptly threw up the three tiny bites I got down. The chili recipe is James Marusek's. He also has a recipe for an egg drop Soup. He has lost all of his weight and has maintained for a long time. Do a search for him. He is very smart and very generously shares his information and experience. I've also had advice about using a crock pot or other slow cooker for cooking meats. Keeps the moisture in and makes the meat very tender. I'm going to google recipes for that too. I'll let you know when I come up with something good.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
